Chicago EA Countdown!

Hey now, I can swing both ways–I’m fluent in the Classical/Baroque/Romantic/Modern/Riccoco vernacular, I just love hip-hop and hipster indie detritus too. Being one-sided is boring.

@SouthKP - yeah there was another artist not on youtube who had a better version than Hilary Hahn - Akiko Suwanai

@zakuropanda: hey I just listened! exceedingly good! thanks for your recommendation! I think I am going to like him

SouthKP I think your standards are a little high, I suppose? I cannot play as good so I think Hilary is fine

I think SouthKP was talking more along the lines of artistry - Hilary’s version does lean towards being robotic a little.

[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Oh well, maybe on RD round >.>

how did you find out?

Mom is friends with an admissions counselor…like that helped at all >.>

decisions haven’t come out yet~ I just checked my email and logged into my account.

don’t scare me like that!

Whoops, thanks for clarifying fuse!

Sorry about the deferral, fuse. You seem more than qualified.

…but, and I have to ask, you don’t know when the rest of us will get decisions?

No clue, she said they were done and (snail) mailed so people should receive them this week. No word on e-mails.

when no official mails come I think you should not lose hope fuse! perhaps your mother’s friends are mistaken

Fuse, your deferral scares the crap out of me. You seem like you should be an easy admit =(

Fuse - looking at your stats again, maybe this is something like Tufts Syndrome. You seem very well qualified; maybe they just figured you would be going to HYPMS?

But aren’t they snail-mailed the day they get released online? Or am I making that up?

I agree with heinochus. after the original shock I looked closely at your post…“Worked with Ada E. Yonath in her research on ribosomes that won her a nobel prize.” THAT’S ALREADY ENOUGH TO WIN YOU A MIT OFFER!

Fuse, ■■■■■ much? There’s no way that you got into her lab especially since she only was at the UoC in the late 70’s (fairly certain she works at Weizmann now…and I doubt you went to Israel to do research) and the fact that you’re only a HS student (to land a position in a lab such as that one is hard as an undergrad, let alone as a HS student). Anyways, if that is a legitimate decision, then you probably got deferred because your essays sound pretty cliche to me. Whatever, this can only mean one thing - decisions this year still come down to a lot more than test scores and grades which is a good thing for the majority of us.

And zakuro, I heard the same thing - leading me to believe that this guy is even more of a ■■■■■.

Frankly, being a captain of two sports, great test scores, impressive course load, nice rewards, really cool research…you’re either a ■■■■■ or one crazy applicant.

On that note, why wouldn’t you be applying to HYPMS?

Actually, if fuse is a ■■■■■ the “decision” doesn’t mean anything. In all honesty I’d bet that numbers might be weighted more heavily this year than in the past, given UChicago’s recent movement toward a slightly more conventional admissions process.

Lol, I can’t believe so many of you fell for fuse’s ■■■■■■■■. It’s pretty obvious after taking just one look at what he posted.
