I don't know if I have the forum cred to start one of these threads, but I'd love to see the friendly (cutthroat?) competition. Maybe post where youre from and what you want to study?

Im John from Massachusetts, currently struggling with the Got Caught essay. Im looking at international studies with a focus in political economy and transnational processes. If I got in and went there, Id apply for the Careers in Business program at Booth sophomore year.

Hi I’m EA too… and just like you still working on the “Got Caught” essay. It’s getting rather frustrating, I might add. But I guess that’s one of the reasons I want to go to Chicago… they make me THINK. haha.

I hail from the Great State of Texas. I, like quite a few, am looking at mainly at Econ. But I would also like to double major/minor in Poly Sci, and definitely minor in French (yay Chicago in Paris program w00t w00t). As well, I want to be in the Pre-Law program, and active in the College Republicans. And I’m also looking into joining a fraternity (probably AEPi).

Hiya! I’m Brooke and I’m from outside Philly, Pa I’m not quite sure what I want to study yet, but I’m thinking perhaps International Relations or Linguistics. I do know that I want to go on to grad school to get my PhD and become a professor in my field :D

Also, I’m not all that into sororities, so I’m not going to participate in greek life. I will, however, probably become involved in a lot of the arts, including theatre! I would like to also learn how to fence and perhaps do some archery while I’m on campus :]

As for my essay…I have my idea and I’ve written my opening paragraph and now I’m letting it sit for a bit. I’m swamped with other stuff right now D:

But I’m dying dying dying to go to UofC! I have my sweatshirt and my cubs hat already :3 Also visited (Campus is GORGEOUS) and interviewed.

Well I wish you both and anyone after this the best of luck, and if I’m accepted along with some of you all, we should talk more before school starts :]

And I’m thinking about going into Biology… But I’m not completely sure. One of the major plus sides of UChicago is the fact that you can study pretty much anything and it’ll be a great program.

I’m still thinking about which essay question I really want to do. I have a few ideas for each, but none have really panned out the way I hoped. So, let’s just say I’m keeping my options open and looking for a little inspiration. But I’ll admit, I’m getting a little stressed out about getting it started.

I’m also finding it hard to write my UChicago essay, which is surprising. I guess the reasons I want to go there are somewhat hard to convey… Even though they shouldn’t be…

I’m possibly EA. I’m from India, as you can probably see.

Like littlhurry (nice name!) I’m letting my essay sit. I’m using the make-your-own-prompt option.

I’m not entirely sure what I want to study. I want to explore many different areas before I decide, which is why the Core is so tempting. I’m so jealous of everyone who can visit. Chicago seems * great *, from all I’ve heard about it.

I’m Kyle from Long Island, New York. I plan on majoring in physics and comparative literature (focusing on French and Japanese literature) and, if it’s possible, biology. I, like Brooke, will be active in the arts, but mostly music groups, and I really want to learn fencing and archery.

Right now I’m working on an essay for the first topic. I responded to the second and forth prompt already, but I ripped those essays up :)

I <3 UChicago, I just hope they accept me and give me adequate financial aid!

Nebraska! Oh snap! I sometimes forget that is a state xD I’m not good with geography…@_@

Haha, thanks Quasi! It’s actually my mom’s nickname It means “Little hurricane” (We’re both like hurricanes, interpret that however you want x_x)

Kyle, you’re awesome I wish I could play in a musical group, but I don’t have much talent. I’m learning/playing the keyboard, I wanna learn the harmonica and it’s really a sad sight when you give me a guitar. I can play Yankee Doodle, though :p

Kansas! Nice. Gotta love the central states.

Anyone thinking about maybe giving crew a try should we be lucky enough to get accepted? I think it looks pretty fun, and have always wanted to give it a shot.

@dnlgao Indeed, Chicago does not have a business major. But there is a program (I think) where you can work with Booth starting in your sophomore year. I don’t think it gives you enough for a major or a minor, but it could be pretty cool.

Hey I’m a New Yorker too and applying EA! I want to major in history and plan on becoming a history professor. I absolutely love UChicago! It’s my dream school and I’m really hoping to get in! Right now I’m working on prompt 5 and have a solid idea that I haven’t committed to paper yet.

:) yay thanks good luck to you too! yeah, i really need to get started on my essay. I admire chicago for its really cool unconventional essays, but i dont really like this years essays quite as much as I have in the past. THey are still interesting but a little less so than in past years does anyone agree? i really hope i get into this college it is exactly the kind of learning environment that i want

Hi. APril from China.
I think I am going to write about the “think playfully or play thoughtfully” one…Not started yet.
I am not sure which field I am going to study in UC, since I think I am more like a Penn student (practicality). I will also RD Wharton for I am clearly passionate about business. But I am EAing UC for I suppose it might be great if I can get around with everything before restricting myself in business…The critical inquiry is absolutely vital for a business person.
But sometimes I get really concerned about the non-vocational education UC gives. Is is true that anyone aspiring in business should not go to UC?

I’m from Jersey and I’m applying to UChicago EA!

And man, do I love UChicago. I’m thinking comparative lit/classics/linguistics/I’mnotreallysurebutthat’sokaywithme.

I’m thinking about how I’ve been caught, but alas, I’ve yet to come up with something playful that won’t be hashed out in a thousand other essays. I’m waiting for epiphany. Perhaps I should find a fig tree to sit under.
