Chicago or NU as a transfer?

Hello. I'm looking for some advice and I hope someone can help. I just finished my 2nd year at an Ivy and although I was accepted to other Ivies for transfer, for family reasons, I've decided to return to the Chicago area so I'm trying to decide between Chicago and NU. I've been accepted to both as a freshman and as a transfer. I was wondering if anyone had more detailed information on which school might be more transfer-friendly. I'm mostly interested in hearing about the social aspects: where transfers live, whether there's a lot of interaction between transfers and non-transfers, the social scene, etc. Any information at all would be great. Thanks.

Lethe: Do you have a credit evaluation from Chicago yet?

I was also accepted as a transfer to Chicago. I haven't submitted a deposit, waiting for the evaluation. From what I hear, since we're last in the housing game, we get the shaft on housing. However, all hope for a single is not lost, I hear - Blackstone and Broadview are places that have singles. Pretty sure no chance at the "close" dorms - Max P, Snitchcock, and B-J. :(

No, I haven't. In fact, I applied RN and I was notified by phone that I was admitted, but I haven't even received my acceptance package yet. I should probably call in about that... They're being kind of lazy about everything.

Does anyone have more info on social integration of transfers? Anyone know any UChicago transfers?

lethe, i am in a similar position

finished my first year at an ivy, unfortunately, didn't get admitted to another ivy

i have between uchicago and northwestern as well and a few others,

i think i am choosing northwestern, and like you, i got into both as a frehsman

lethe,

Most people won't even know you're a transfer unless you tell them. You'll be in the same social position as everyone else.

Will we -ever- get credit evaluations? I'm getting honestly very angry.

The only thing that Chicago transfer admissions has done very well this year is get people angry. :)

As of a few days ago, I knew of at least one EA applicant who still didn't even have a decision.

I'm going back to calling Monday. Sigggh.

Is anyone else kind of unsure about transferring to Chicago because so many people transfer out? It seems like kind of a risk if you don't want to transfer twice.

No. I just want my evaluation.

I worry about this too. However, you should remember that about 10-20% of the students who transferred OUT of UChicago decide they actually prefer it and transfer back IN. I think UChicago is simply a unique school and that appeals to some people and not others... While NU is also a special and respectable school (I applied to both), there are closer substitutes I guess. Does that make it less of a great institution? Nope. It all has to do with what appeals to you.

Sorry I can't answer your original questions. I'm very curious too so come on people. I'm sure there are some transfers here.

i think just for that reason...i am headin to Northwestern...at this pt in my academic career, i cannot afford to take big risks

goin to chicago ,and having my gpa fall down is a risk (considering i was able to get a 3.95 at cornell). I think that chicago is one of the few places where I cna honestly say is harder than cornell in terms of getting grades.

i got my credit evaluation...from Chicago today

they didnt count my spanish or calc wat-so-ever, which is really frustrating

and they dumped most of my courses in electives

Ha! And you are at Cornell! I can only imagine what they would do with my community college courses. :D They'd probably only accept me as a freshman or something.

Hmm I wonder why they didn't count your calc as they say they normally do.

They are tough about transferring credit. S just got permission to take a summer science course at a what is often referred to as a top Ivy, but with stipulation that the grade will not count toward his GPA and that he must get a "high grade" if it is to transfer.

When S was considering entering a Flagship State U Honors program at the end of 10th grade, he asked the Chicago admit folks how they thought this would be received at Chicago. They said it should be okay, but that, if admitted, he would most likely be admitted as a first year even though he would have two years of honors courses. He stayed in HS.

Bball: Did you send them your final transcript yet? No one has told me whether I need to send that with my deposits or for my evaluation.

no...i just sent it to them.....

Okay. Me too, If you got yours today, I should get mine soon - we were accepted on the same day.

Does it come in a big envelope or a normal one?
