Well her son did apply from an Ivy League school so im sure that didn't hurt either.

Just heard from Son - HE GOT IN!!!

Wait listed last year. Rejected this year.

Well, from all of this, I will surely learn how to take rejection. That is for sure.

Didn't seem to help with Brown.....

waitlistees? no other waitlistees?

hopeful...

Deferred EA, then rejected RA

jna, I'm just curious, what were your stats like?

I am from a CCC with a 4.0 gpa, before college: my hs gpa was 3.6, 1430 SAT 31 ACT. I had some extracurriculars, but none really stood out. I think that was my downfall.

EXTREMELY disappointed, I either have a choice to go to NYU, USC, or wait one year and apply again to UChicago and Berkeley for 2008 (I didn't apply this year and they take like 90% of applicants from my CC, not applying was like the biggest mistake I've made so far in my life).

If I am accepted to Northwestern, I will go there. Does anyone know when Northwestern will be notifying us? I only have 2 weeks to respond to NYU and USC.

Accepted, woot. Ill give myself about a 10% chance of going though. I have a passion for another school.

taromakino - don't feel bad a/b ur rejection. When I asked Libby, she specifically said there weren't many CC transfers at Chicago.

You know I realized I probably wouldn't get in when I viewed how much Math the accepted students had. It seems that if you want to get into Chicago, you need to take as much Math as possible. A high GPA and strong extracurriculars alone wont cut it.

waitlisted... sheesh I'm on a wait list everywhere. My current university will probably put me on one before letting me come back in August.

Strangely, I never took much Math, and got in. I am, however, an English major. Overall, I still think my acceptance was a stroke of luck. Congratulations to those who are Chicago-bound -- deepest sorries to those wonderful eggs whom Chicago just wasn't quite on-the-ball enough to accept.

"Deferred EA, then rejected RA

jna, I'm just curious, what were your stats like?"

here's my stats as posted in the transfer results thread. keep in mind i am in a different boat, as i am neither a us citizen nor am i a permanent resident:

Current School: California Community College
Entering as: Junior
High School GPA: 4.6
College GPA: 3.92
SAT/ACT Scores: 2270
SAT II Scores: 800 MII, 750 LIT
Significant ECs: TONS!!! Too many to list.

Applied to: UC Berkeley, UC Davis, Stanford, Brown, Northwestern, Duke, Rice, Chicago, Michigan Ann Arbor
Accepted: UC Davis, Michigan Ann Arbor
Waitlisted: None
Rejected: UC Berkeley, Stanford, Brown, Duke, Rice, Chicago
Pending: Northwestern

Likely Attending: UC Davis

hope this helps. once again, congrats to everybody who was accepted. i know some people get a little sore about rejections, and bombard those admitted with requests for stats and essays and such. this, IMO is a bit ridiculous. i leave all those admitted with nothing but my well wishes, and the best of luck in your academic pursuits :)

JNA - I honestly am very surprised that you were rejected by many of those schools. I would've guessed admission for you at Cal and Rice at least. Keep your head up as I think you've got a great shot at Northwestern! crosses fingers

^^ thanks brand. of all the schools i was a little surprised about cal's decision, but no big deal. either way, if i attend northwestern or davis, i feel i'll get a great education. i appreciate the well wishes with regard to northwestern, and i extend mine unto you with any outstanding decisions you might have. best of luck. brand, i've seen your posts in many threads. any idea where you might be attending school next fall?

Haha, if that thing about taking math classes is true, thats definately what sealed my grave. I applied as an economics major, and I only took up to Calculus 1. Thanks for the info about CC students, brand_182.

I'm feeling pretty strongly about taking a year off to do Americorps or something and then apply to Berkeley; do you think admissions counselors would frown upon me taking a year off between my sophmore and junior years?

jna, I really hope we both get into Northwestern

^^ i don't believe a lack of math courses sealed your fate. i also applied as an econ major, but have taken calc 1, 2 and 3, differential equations, and linear algebra... only getting a "B" in calc 2 with "A's" in everything else, and likely receiving "A's" in Calc 3 and differential equations this semester. i'm not quite sure why you would be rejected with such a stellar record. this literally might have been a case where they really did not have enough spaces for qualified applicants.

edit: didn't see your next post taro :P thanks for the kind gesture, and my best wishes to you as well. here's to both of us.

jna - I'm headed to Wesleyan.

^^ wow! that's very impressive. i see you are a freethinker :P . congratulations on your admission. i hope you have a blast and from what i've heard (and seen on their site), it looks like an absolutely beautiful campus. best of luck.

:) thx I'm excited.
