Chicago Unified experience

Just was curious about everyones experience with Syracuse’s unified auditions in Chicago.

It moved Syracuse up to the top of her list.

Same here. I like how Syracuse conducted their audition (in NYC). It is now among the top schools for my D.

The program is fantastic! My daughter is a senior at SU and is currently participating in the Tepper Semester in NYC. Last year, she did the London semester at the Globe Theatre. These programs alone are worth attending the program! And of course, Syracuse Drama provides great training and excellent opportunities throughout the four years.

My D is a Freshman MT. Make sure you ask about whether the MT’s can go to London now. My D is very disappointed that Ralph is implying only acting majors from here on out can go to London. This was one of the reasons (besides Tepper and Sorkin week) that she wanted to attend SU. She is really loving the program though!

Were any of this years audtionees given feedback?

ParadiseMT- what about the way they conducted their audtion did you like?

First, I always appreciate if the schools makes an effort to send the head of their department to the audition - either to orient or be evaluators. It shows how the school gives importance to audition process. If I can travel 8,000 miles for my D’s audition, how about a couple of hours flight to NYC from these schools? While some schools might have also sent their department heads, there was no interaction with the parents.

Second, I like how the department chair provided the orientation - relaxed yet informative (open forum always helped - first time to hear about the Aaron Sorkin week) and with great pride of the school (“as far as we know, in case there are lawyers aroudn, we are the only university with . . .”) Even the interaction between the students dancers and faculty was great.

Third, the vocalization. It helped the kids relaxed and prepared for their songs.

Fourth, the interaction with the evaluators. After my D sung her first song (upbeat), and was about to sing the second (ballad) song, she was asked to stop in the middle and she was asked if she has another balad song which I believe would help the evaluator assess more her singing capability.

Fifth, I like the location - although it was in Ripley Grier Studio where there were other schools, too, SU had a floor for themselves - so it was more organized and less crowded. The RGS is also lot better, too, than the other studio.

There’s just this “feel-good” feeling after the audition - just hope it translates to acceptance :)

I agree with ParadiseMT! Syracuse was a classy audition! My daughter loved this one too!

D just got into Syracuse - with scholarship! It is quite a relief after 3 straight rejections!

Congrats, Paradise! I sent you a PM.
