Chicago Waitlist call starts in a week!

so i just emailed my counselor back and shes now on vacation from the 8th till the 22nd?! and out of the country? lol what is going on

^lmao omg 10char

confused nonetheless. isnt this like the second busiest time of the year? i guess my adcom doesnt care…? lol idk, im just talking outta whim.

I got the same letter as the bear dude:

“We are sure that you have made plans to attend another institution this fall, but considering yuor statements of continued interest in the University of Chicago, we would like to offer you a place on our extended summer waitlist.”

maybe it’s to all the people who wrote letters of interest

^was this an e-mail or an actual mailed letter? and when did u get it?

sorry for all these questions

It was a letter; I just checked my mail for the first time in like… a week.
I’m assuming I was supposed to get it earlier because it tells me to email one of the Associate Director of Admissions to stay on the summer waitlist by the end of the day on June 7 (today!).

No need to apologize for the questions.

^ahh okay thanks. good luck! hope you get in

Thank you very much :D

It is kinda weird … hearing different things from different people. An Adcom told me over the phone today that they haven’t notified anyone about anything regarding their waitlist position, and they aren’t sure when they would.

No acceptances and no omissions from the waitlist to the class of 2014 till date…

Should I even buy that!?

That was what I heard as well straight from the admissions office in-person, but I will ask again in a couple of hours.

hey agpyn3w, if you don’t mind me asking, which state do you live in? I haven’t gotten a letter or an email (or any information at all, for that matter )=) and I live in NJ.

I hope this can put an end to all the speculations and rumors:

“None of the students has been accepted off the waitlist. The fact of the matter is that we’re over-enrolled. We put a fair large number of students on the waitlist because we were unsure about the yield. A couple of students will be offered the option of being on the extended waitlist, but all international students will not have this option due to visa problems. Students will be informed soon, if not imminently, of whether they will be on the extended waitlist.”

I am very sorry about this answer coming from one of the assistant admissions directors. I hope you guys have come up with alternatives, and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

lyc0rls, I live in Oregon

'kay thanks
not sure how I’m supposed to feel about that lol. Maybe they like one end of the country better than the other? =P

i’m down here in texas

It seems like there’s a lot of desperation, my friends. The thing is, we are all going to get rejected, it’s just that it will be few days later. I’m tired of people calling me ■■■■■■, so I’ll post the entire text. No, I will not put the snapshot because I have no reasons to put that effort, so it’s up to you to believe it or not. However, unlike what DC said, there HAS been about 30~40 people who got off the waitlist. DC might as me: well my regional councilor told me that no one got off the waitlist, eh eh eh. Well I’m sorry, my friend who lives in Europe got off the waitlist at around last week of April. (and much more on facebook as well as on Chicago thread here on CC)

This is the full letter:

Dear …,

We realize that it has been nearly two months since you accepted a spot on our waitlist and we wanted to give you an update as we come to the end of this year’s admission cycle. As of today, our enrollment statistics indicate the Class of 2014 is currently full. However, it has been our experience that enrolled students may choose to withdraw from the class through the early weeks of summer. We are sure that you have made plans to attend another institution this fall, but considering your statements of continued interest in the University of Chicago, we would like to offer you a place on our extended summer waitlist. A few people from this extended waitlist may be added to the entering class as the need arises.

If you are happily settled at another college, we wish you the best of luck. The college admissions process is a lengthy endeavor and we understand if you are ready to move forward with your fall plans. If you wish to remain on our extended summer waitlist, we will continue to monitor our class for potential movement. Please take a moment to consider this option and contact XXXX, Associate Director of Admissions, at XXX@uchicago.edu by the end of the day on Monday, June 7 with your decision. Summer waitlist students will receive a final admission decision for the 2009-2010 cycle by June 30, 2010.

According to what the assistant director at the admissions office, no one was accepted off the waitlist. I’m going to leave it at that since those are the official words I got from the admissions office.

I am deeply and sincerely sorry about your rejection. I think you’re going to enjoy your time (and have more fun) at Emory. It’s an honorable institution.

Sorry Divine Comedy, but I personally know someone who was accepted off the waitlist and IS attending. I’ve seen the paperwork, so it looks like the admissions office is just trying to keep things under wraps.

So did you get an email, Sensation, or a letter? I haven’t received either…

I received an email…but another person here said he/she got a letter. But it’s maybe because I don’t live in the US. Anyways, I’ll now quit CC, and I wish you all great success. I’m confident that everyone here will succeed even if one does not attend Chicago this year. goodbye!
