Chicago

I live very close to Chicago, and I was wondering, does anyone know some successful in getting summer internship work (paid or unpaid) with an investment firm, by contact them, letting them know that you have interest in working for the company for the summer, and actually secured a position that way? I'm not in dire need on an internship, but it would be nice, to have something to do the second half of the summer, and if it could be in the IB field that would be great.

try coldcalling every company that looks good that you can find. another alternative would be to try to do business work for a non-profit.

Thats what I'm doing now, is cold "emailing" if you will, is that effective, or are my chances pretty much nill, even if I offer to be an unpaid intern?

Do it, i did it and i got three offers after interviewing with all them, 3-3, smith barney, prudential securities, wachovia securities go for it

Always call, never e-mail. People just don't respond.

kcirsh, I was beginning to get that feeling. Seems like people just respond better to human interaction if you will.
