child support during seperation

I have been separated but am still going through the divorce proceedings. My husband does not live here and hasn't for 3 years. I get some child support but nothing is legally in court ordered paperwork. He could stop this anytime. Do I need to file this on the fafsa under child support where it is not legal?

Since you report what you have received in 2013, yes you have to report it. You can add in the comments that it is not court ordered and may stop. If it does stop, you’ll report that on the 2015 form.

What he’s doing isn’t illegal, so it is LEGAL. It’s just not court-ordered.

Will you be asking the courts to have him ordered to help with college costs? That may be something that you should consider.

If he earns more than you do, you may need to ask for spousal support as well.

Is there a place for comments on the FAFSA? I dont recall that.
