Chimesmaster Tryouts?

I know tryouts for new chimesmasters (http://chimes.cornell.edu/chimesmasters.html) are coming up soon and was wondering if anyone had experience with the tryout process and the average time commitment required. I’m interested in auditioning next year but haven’t been able to find a lot of information on the Internet other than old alumni newsletters.

Thanks so much!

I didn’t bother to scroll through, but have you checked their FB page?

I know nothing about it but wish you luck with tryouts! Am hoping you are selected so that you can tell us all about it.

And, of course, the FB page link was blocked. Just search Cornell Chimes within FB.

Sorry, last post (I think). Have you tried calling the music dept? I have found people to be very helpful the few times I have called with random questions, but I know nothing about the music dept.

@CT1417 - Thank you so much! I’ll be sure to contact the music department for more information on the process. I really appreciate it and will update you all if I end up getting selected next year

My D is also interested in trying out next year as well. I don’t think she’s super excited about having to climb the 161 steps though!

My friend went through the auditions last Spring and he said it was pretty competitive. He said they have a roster for every week, so it is some time commitment. But he also said it is really worth it because the songs he plays are pretty cool/fun.

Thanks for the input! Do you know if it’s a requirement to have an extensive musical background or does everyone start off on the same page? It does seem really fun haha, I’ve watched a couple of their videos and they seem to play songs from all genres.

And agreed–at least climbing the tower every day will be good exercise!

My guess is that you probably need to be able to read music.
