I KNOW it was between Britain and China. i'm simply stating the possibility of a parallel war except between China and the US.

tell me when a non european power was a super power that conquered the world in some way?

Russia ... all forms
Italy ... all forms
Germany
France
Spain
Portugal
United Kingdom
United States
...

yep, didn't think so.

i guess you could say Japan was, but not really. most of their military leaders were Caucasian (Ainu tribe). narrow mind or not, I know my facts.

This is so not going to happen unless something extraordinary happens (Maybe Taiwan) because the two countries are too interdependent. The US would see a huge price jump (in basically everything - "Made in China") and China would see its bustling economy collapse. I don't think either country wants that even if they (deep down), hate each other.

Go US Btw...

:)

France doesn't have anything against us!...they'd surrender before anyone woulda thought about war!

sorry amnesia...i really doubt many other nations cared abotu conquering the world like european colonists...:p

The US isn't involved in a "war" right now - it's nation building.

If we were in a real (turn x country into rubble, destroy/castrate the military defenses - and move on) war we would win, with or without using nukes.

I was wondering how long before we got a French military comment. Thanks for making it happen!

Anyone willing to wager on if I could take over France with a crazy straw, a paperclip, and a string of firecrackers.

France would surrender...and then you can end the sentence.

Perhaps the consumption of escargot renders the population invertebrate?

I've got $200 in favor of Maize&Blue

i doubt america and china will go to war anwhere in the near future..
but what will probably happen is that america will wisen up to the threat china poses and will start supporting India- the other regional super power in Asia in a sort of proxy war.... (india and china have gone to war in the past as well)

india is a friendly democracy, rising economically and with great potential...

First off, there are a number of things keeping Chinese ambitions "in check" in Northeast Asia.

The 7th fleet

Japan (Anyone who argues that Japanese military power is insignificant is foolish.)

Taiwan

However, what if China actually catches up in terms of technological prowess, or even gets close? In a conventional war, that's a scary thought. Even though we're fond of saying that technology wins the day, look at how much pure attrition on the Russian front hurt German ambitions past Poland. Numbers do matter, and even a technologically inferior military can cause serious logistical issues for an otherwise superior military.

Is the US willing to bleed if push comes to shove? It hasn't shown that sort of willingness since World War II. Would the US stand to lose 30 million of its citizens like Russia did in WWII? Even though we effective decimated North Vietnam, and killed 2 million Vietnamese, 50,000 deaths and rising costs there got us out. What would a war with China lead to?

And if history has taught us anything, the Chinese peasant population can be drummed up from obscurity to become a fierce beast.

However, China currently lacks the prerequisities for truly challenging the US. And, when you consider that the second most powerful fleet in the Pacific is a staunch ally (Japan), Chinese prospects get duller. With Japan showing a bit more of an interest in flexing its otherwise powerful military muscles, I can assure you that China is more nervous than it's letting on.

Then again, there are also domestic constraints on war. The CCP has no guarantee today that its constituents would be willing to go to war for it. Unlike the powerful support drummed up in the 1930s and 1940s, today's Chinese see the CCP in a fair less positive light.

India does not pose a threat to the US. I can't believed you mentioned India.

^ i said india can be used as an ally(of america) against china

Did US win any war to China?

no, because they fought against each other(yet) For example, during the Korean War, it wasn't a direct clash.

No direct clash? K war or V war?

Korea was a proxy war, and we did meet directly with Chinese troops on more than one occasion. Let's not forget that MacArthur was ready to drop nukes, but thankfully cooler (read: Truman) heads prevailed.

However, we have yet to engage the Chinese directly in war.

OMG would you all stop making every1 parnoid of Chinese ppl!!!!
there's not going to be a war between the U.S. and China...if it happens...it won't be within the next half century!

Who said " we had a wrong war at wrong time and wrong place" something like that? John Kerry is not the first man, right?

This is the same thing that everyone did in the 1980s a.k.a. the Japan decade.
