Chinese 1 Textbooks

I was wondering if anyone here knows what books are needed for Chinese 1 with Fu. The UCLA store site lists these five:

Yao
Integrated Chin Char Wkbk Lvl1 Pt1 (Simplified & T

Yao
Integrated Chin Txt Lvl1 Pt1 (2nd) (Traditional)

Yao
Integrated Chin Txt Lvl1 Pt1 (Simpl) (Expnd) (2nd)

Yao
Integrated Chin Wkbk Lvl1 Pt1 (2nd) (Simplified)

Yao
Integrated Chin Wkbk Lvl1 Pt1 (2nd) (Traditional)

It looks like it says I need two versions each (one simplified and one traditional) of both the textbook and the workbook, as well as one workbook that has both traditional and simplified.

Do I really need to buy all five? If not, which ones do I need--traditional or simplified?

BUMPP, I'm wondering the same thing...

Keywon: are you taking chinese 1A or chinese 1?

Btw, does anybody know if a non-Korean speaker can directly go to Korean 1 class without taking placement test or registering on URSA and obtain a PTE # to enroll? Anybody done this before?

I'm taking Chinese 1.

I'm pretty sure you have to take the placement exam by the way. I think that's the policy for all Asian languages.

That's pretty annoying...

"5. I can't read or write at all. Should I still take a placement exam?

Even if you have no reading/writing skills whatsoever of the characters in the particular language, you should still take the exam. If you have no knowledge of the language at all, you must still attend the exam to receive additional enrollment information. "

You only need three books:
[ol][]Textbook (Simplified OR Traditional)
[]Workbook (Simplified OR Traditional)
[li]Character Workbook[/li][/ol]Simplified or Traditional is up to you.

Thank you flopsy!

traditional is the real chinese :P

so far I'm waitlisted for chinese 1A, should I get my books already? As I understood it, even though you're waitlisted, if you take the placement test and place into the appropriate class, you'll be added no matter what, is this correct?

yea, thats what my friend told me. you get in no matter what.
