Chinese people

Trust me - I don't work because my parents push me. When I work (and what I work in) is 100% my own choice. My parents pushing kinda pushes me in the opposite direction (not working at all).

^ So wrong its not even funny.

Actually it is, I'm chinese and I know tons of people smarter than I.

Haha...

:)

juzan:
if u didn't know, i'm asian, and it's not true at all that asians are "just smart." True, some might be, but there are "just smart" people among whites too. And it is true that Asians put lOTS of emphasis on education, with their parents pushing them. Nothing wrong with that..

I think its because of their parents. From what I've seen white American kids have parents that are eithe rlike "You're still young! Enjoy life a little" or are like "As long as you make Bs, you can go play".

I can't tell you about black people. There are like two different things when it comes to blacks. Meaning the real Africans and the American blacks.

best_ws, hmm I never really posted in response to you, and I never said that all asians are "just smart"

"Asian people might just be smart! What is wrong with that!"

that was my quote

(btw I purposely spelled your name wrong because you spelled mine wrong as well, notice that its the last letter of ur name and i changed it to the next letter in the alphabet 's' just like you changed mine from an 'm' to an 'n')

all you "omg they must study like freaking mother*******" are just trying to find an excuse for your own miserable, mediocre lives. so stop. they're better than you are. live with it.

Dude - while what you said might not be true about you, that applys to my life. People at school try to TELL me that I "must" study or I study then lie about it. In classes like AP Chem, I can get As without effort, and they study all night and still get Bs. They get ****ed about it and try to find excuses. But sometimes, there are none.

I don't want to come accross as cocky, but it DOES happen and it bugs me that they try to tell me that I studied.

LMAO Juzam!

I think asians have a genetic tendency to overachieve. We're just militant and determined in nature. all the laidback asians are just not true to their heritage.

sorry, that was sarcastic and supposed to be funny.
However, racism is never funny.
*tear

We're militant?

Since when?

;)

:)

As usual, you twist around my words and dont take my post as a whole in context. I never said that Asians were not smart, for the 10th time. I simply said that it depends on the individual and that EVERY race has its share of smart and dumb people.

And to respond to the post about the "American Media" having some sort of inherent bias against Asians, I dont know what country you are living in. The media never really focuses on our educational system(when they do its generally bashing the poor quality of inner city school systems). I also believe that you are mistaken about American coorporations getting all the credit for business transactions. Companies like Sony, Mitsubishi, Fuji Film, Toyota, etc. are all based in Asia.

well ryan, it was interesting to me that the only time when Sony's Japanese head of operations got air time on CNN was when he was accompanying Sony's new CEO, Howard Stringer.
Do you have any idea how often you hear of perfect scores on the SATs when the recipient is Asian. Just about never.
But when a caucasian person scores a 1600 or a 2400, he/she is on his/her local news channel and/or the local newspaper immediately.

I understand you are not trying to say that Asian people are not smart, and apologize for not taking your whole post into account. However, your statements still detract from Asians by trying to relegate their abilities to the effects of hardcore pushing from their parents, or to the fact that Asians in America are "the cream of the crop."

The point that I am trying to make is that you were wrong in making derogatory posts in this thread. You should never have come here and tried to make excuses for those who think that Asians are just smart because they study more or have pushier parents.

There was a white girl and an Asian guy at my school who had perfect SAT scores and they got the same press.

that is so not true
you may say that american chinese are slightly smarter b'cuz their parents need to be smart enough to get here......but...it is nothing about mental

Wait... Wait... Don't you think if the Chinese were "inherently" smarter, that China would've become a superpower a long time ago?

I agree with Mayflower.

:)

Oh dear, I have to say that some Chinese/Japanese/Koreans and Indians in my school are such competitive high achievers! Once a girl (indian) and I were vying for the position of Editor in Chief of our school yearbook and she went as far as to trying to secure an internship for the summer and emailing the information to the advisor in hopes of her getting the position! She didn't get the internship or the position. Ha! Competitive biznatch.

It may be that when an Asian person does really well it is attributed to a lot of hard work, but when say a cacausian does, it could be based on their true talent for something (not to say that an Asian can't be talented though)

"Wait... Wait... Don't you think if the Chinese were "inherently" smarter, that China would've become a superpower a long time ago?

I agree with Mayflower."

Well look at China now. Many countries are blaming China for disrupting the global economy, and causing many nations to get angry/jealous.

China was, for the greater part of the past two thousand years, the most powerful country in Asia and the most capable civilization in the world.

^ indeed. very interesting to read about, too.
