Chinese Program at Brigham Young

Does anyone have experience with the Startalk programs at BYU in Chinese and Arabic? They're relatively cheap ($800 for Arabic, $888 for Chinese) for a 3 1/2 intensive program. For the Chinese program, it is supposed to be the equivalent of one year in HS.

BYU Conferences and Workshops - StarTalk 2008 - Start Talking

Tuition: $888 - An amazing price! "This includes housing, tuition, meals, books and classroom materials, field trip expenses, and all other program costs. This modest cost to students is made possible by a generous grant from the National Foreign Language Center." April 15 deadline. Wow.

BYU has an excellent reputation for teaching languages -- they are also a conservative school, so supervision should be good (for those students with parents worried about that). I would expect these programs to be excellent!

I do have a tiny fear the class will include everyone learning the Chinese words for "Would you like to learn more about the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints?" :-)

Seriously, though, this really sounds like a wonderful program.

Do you know what the age/grade requirement is? This program sounds amazing but I cannnot seem to find the age requirement anywhere.

It's for all high school students. (I'm not sure if it's for students entering 9th grade, though)

oh ok thank you

Did anyone actually participate in this program last summer? If so, how was it? Thanks.
