wireless microphones and a van full of computers parked outside the testing facility~ reminds me of a few hollywood movies (old school and perfect score).

I've heard so much about the fabled Chinese entrance exam, but I've yet to see an actual copy, much less one translated into English. My favorite line:

"...exam papers are considered state secrets before the tests."

WOW! I did not realize that China put the pressure on their students so much. I am not sure if I would not cheat if one test decided the rest of my life

yeah it sucks that they only look at an applicant as a "number", so does Australian Colleges. If you don't ahve the score, you won't get it. It's not as holistic as US

Remember that China is known for cronyism so any subjective criteria in college admissions will necessarily introduce suspicions of corruption. With so many competitive students, a holistic system modeled after the US's would be crazy difficult. A major difference between Chinese and American educational systems is the emphasis on competitions and testing.

i went through the process of the high school entrance exam in Taiwan. almost the exact same system as China's . yup, that's right, the HIGH SCHOOL EXTRANCE EXAM. everybody has to take it in order to get into high school . then you take the college one. they basically decide your life...

you're competing against the ENTIRE country. i can see why someone would be pressured to cheat, especially in China , where its extremelyt cutthroat as there is not enough space in the top universities and colleges. i'm not condoning the cheating, i think its horrible, but i'm just explaining why some people go to such great lengths to cheat. its the way society is structured.
