China's a dark place

pearfire i might go there not tooo sure yet. I was thinking of going to places like yun nan actually

judy, I can't believe you just said that! I was born in Kunming, ^^. So where in Yunnan are you gonna stay? I'll do sort of a tour in China, so I'll visit Shanghai, Chengdu, Guilin and lots of places in Yunnan. I tell you guys, the best part about our country: THE FOOD!!! I'll prob have to move back there after college just for the food, lol...

OMG. Going back to Chengdu this summer too!

I haven't been there in NINE YEARS.

I hear it's changed//exploded like crazy.

hi pearfire, I am the person who mentioned Chengdu. I am going back there since I was born in Chengdu. it seems so long ago

I totally agree with you about the food. cheap and yamy. Just a note, the food in Chengdu is pretty spicy

have a good vacation and be careful. Jimmy is right about china

Today's chinese society completely revolves around monetary wealth. The government is simply doing some occasional lipservice in order to appear as if they are still "true communists."

The dark thing I am referring to is the corruption, how every level of government officials, elite business people, and the local underworld thugs join forces for greater power and wealth all in the name of "serving the people." I'm not angry, simply disappointed at the ignorance of our people.

i have to completely agree with Jimmy@killarney on this one, but most of it doesn't relate to us. (assuming we do not try to expose anything or start a revolution of some kind)

so i think it's still possible to have a good vacation there, just watch out for the swindlers

Thanks, I wish you a good trip, too. And btw, the spicy food is what I'm looking forward to the most, ^^.

Jimmy, please explain what you mean by this: the ignoarance of our people.
Are you saying that Chinese citizens don't know about the capitalist shift or that they're not aware of the corruption?

hey pearfire, im thinking li jiang, da li gu chen, and kun min. spicy food? lol have a good vacation :D

By now, I am quite certain that the majority of the Chinese citenery does acknowledge the existence of wide spread corruption, abuse of power, and other ongoing illegal/immoral activities pursued by numerous levels of government in China.

Are they ignorant? To a certain degree, yes. As citizens of a morally upright society, people should stand up and combat these injustices instead of turning their backs to these problems and go on to make more money for themselves. Every citizen has the responsibility to supervise, advice, and correct immoral, unjust acts commited by the government. Sadly, many Chinse youths nowadays do not have the commitment and will to shoulder these responsibilities of a citizen. In the most common case, whenever the Chinese government published the annual budget plan and revenue income, few people in China actually took the time, courage, and effort to inquire "how exactly are OUR taxes spent." In fact, many are quite happy that the government is getting rich and making more money off their own hard-earned taxes... That's how ignorant they are.

Oh cool, you're going to dali as well, that's were my mum goes to every time, it's awesome!!! have fun on ur trip!

"people should stand up"
I fully agree with u that they "should" stand up, but I also fully understand why they don't! Are u willing to risk your life for nothing? Because they control everything and if they want to, they'll make a ghost which has never existed. Your voice will be unheard and u'll probably have to go to prison. Unless u can mobilize the masses I can't see how u'll change things in China.

I must agree that there are still many problems in CHINA.Howver,we must see that Beijing government is trying to improve the conditions of every area, and please remember that costs TIME just like you can't rise you SATS from 1600 to 2300 in just one month!!
Most importantly, the government has never ever bowed to any other country like what dogs do to their masters(it doesn't like that sucker Taiwan government denies all the history of what Japan did in WW2 in order to gain the surport of the current Japan government). In one sentence, they DEFEND of ****ries and make China both powerful in economic development and political reputation, which makes me pround to be a CHINESE.
