Chinese Thread

I read through all the 58 pages last night. I had so much fun!!! still want to laugh ^0^ oh and tangsdaily why you stop writing your biography? I am so curious to know what happened next. :)

so happy to see someone like the same pop stars I like. Jay Chow, Yanzi, Liu Yifei are my favorate. I also like An Yixuan but definitely like Liu better. She is so pretty who cares she knows how to act or not?! he he.....

oh and I am on the facebook, too. just go to global search and look for "Raymond Yuan". People who are interested feel free to add me. Just don't be fooled by my pic! lol ;)

so you want to dump water now?

Hey everyone,

I've got a quick question. How do I explain what a liberal arts college is to my parents? They're chinese and so am I :P but when I tried explaining to them they seemed to not really understand... Some help? Specific terms or equivalents in Chinese?

Thanks ;)

haha, raymond, welcome to join the rest of us CC addicts here. and yep, i've added you to facebook.
hey realistknight, you should probably ask bow..if he still hangs around here. i'm not in a liberal arts college (well, i am, but it's a part of the school, like the college of natural sciences) but i'm a liberal arts major..for now at least. i just told my parents that it sort of focus on wen but includes a nice balance of subjects. so you can still basically pursue what you are interested in. i'm still exploring, so don't trust me on this.
alright, back to work. sleeping 3.5 hrs at night isn't very fun. o well, i'll be done after tomorrow...if i'm still alive by then. see you all later

welcome raymond, realistknight, naturallyjojo, drinkingmilkalldaylong, jinFX, CC chinese thread is booming again :) good luck whether you are applying to college or you are in college now.

yy.... of coure i am on cc.....chinese thread is my official exc....it's just the busy swat life....sigh..sigh..sigh... i sleep 3-5 hrs a night in the weekdays....three five page essays in the last four days....now i come to peace with the vision of fall break ahead :D

realistknight, liberal arts college usually translates to 文理学院, not really perfect translation though. If you have a specific school in mind, I can find some notable alums to back you up. IMHO, it's important that you articulate to your parents about what you think liberal arts colleges are because that gives you the best definition of what you want out of your college education. If you want to convince them about this specific form of education, I have extra documents etc.

second the request that mr. tangsdaily should unfold his story...cough....especially the first few years he came to america...uncough...

LACs usually have excellent undergrad education. they help u lay a solid foundation for future study if u want to major in science or engineering( these courses in LACs are quite demanding). if you are thinking about major in humanities, economic and things like that, LACs are the right places to go.

I know a lot of Asian parents are concerned with what their kids would get out of a liberal arts education. Well, it's important to let them know that in LACs, you will be able to broaden your horizon by taking courses in different disciplines, while at the same time concentrate on one or two subjects. Further more, LACs are not all about humanities...this seems to be a misconception among ppl who think that if you go to a LAC, you must be a humanities major. Many LACs have strong science departments, too. Also, parents maybe concerned about employment after graduating from a LAC. It's probably good to let them know that ppl who graduated from LACs have as much advantage (if not more) as ppl who graduated from universities...you can do a little research on LACs' websites if you want to :)

ok...so i'm taking my study break for tonight right now. Hmm i have a mid-term tomorrow but i'm not really worried coz it's open book. But i have much work to do after that. Need to catch up on my reading and write a paper for philosophy...anyway guess what...i had dumplings for dinner today!! Hehe frozen dumplings of course...made in boiling water and it was good~~hmm sooo much better than the food in dining hall. I got sick of cafeteria food after a while.

Yryuan i'll search for you on facebook...btw i'm from vassar just so that you'll know i'm the one who added you.

my previous attempt to spice up the thread hath failed for n~th

i sense that the **** side of the force is introducing "super female voice"

ahh, lac, i applied 4 of them, but got in none of them. anyway, i'm curious if lac students are required to take english/humanity/social studies for 4 years, and other areas like natural science, foreign language, fine arts. at my "university"(a term might not sounds as sexy as liberal arts, so flur pasion) i'm required one half professional classes and one half non-professional courses for graduation. so i do get a nice balance. now i take math, behaviorial analysis, foreign laguage, comparative literature, and management(professional course) courses for the first semester. sounds pretty balanced. my point is, even at larger unviersities, there is still liberal arts style education, but not very quality, sadly some classes gets too big. i weep

I'm curious why a number of people keep saying stuff like "...on a study break....going back to study now....a lot of work left to go.......five pages due next morning..." after replying to previous posts. all the college kids can make themselves look busy, anyway, i do feel you guys are busier than me as you can tell in a minute or two.

liberal arts is a very broad terms. a number of professional educations actually resemle the form of liberal arts education. in business, we have to a variety of courses, including micro/global/managerial economics, to marketing, strategic consulting, human resource management, negotiations, auditing, operation and supply chain management, banking,
pre-med students has to take all physics, biology, chemistry throughout several levels, and varying courses from english, math, humanity department

sweetbee had the forturne to indulge dumplings...... i heard chewing dumplings releases more stress in both mental and physical form than chewing gum, veal steak, maine lobster, blue crab(or big dam crap from shanghai), moose, pillow or couch cushion. don't take it for real though, sleep is the best
and exercise as well.

dumpling is great, i still remeber those frozen dumpling ads in china came out mid90's, it was those old frozen dumpling ads showed me how tasty the real dumplings are, i don't want to get into food to deep tonight, because of obese reasons. i ordered chinese food once at my college, not cheap$8 for pepper steak with fried rice, but my food came in the plastic bag because the box was ripped open. so i ate my food with**, i think a lot of us here pity chinese restaurant workers a lot. our library cafe makes bubble tea, 4 flavors. but the powder are not well dissolved, i usually chew the tea and swallow the bubble(pearl, or mutated tapioca). about the food at college dinning hall, after being there a few times, i started worrying about obesity. i seriously feel that i'm approaching 2
now i eat 2 meals a day.

about that fictious biography earlier. well, as a rule on cc, languages other than english are not prefered for posting. so the situation is misty here. i'm surprise people believed those stories are real
as i finished part 10, i met **, and ** told me to , so i thought about *, and then i ***** as ******* indicated; i came to realize that ****** is ******. besides, i don't want to turn the chinese thread into my virtual blog.

hey, i was just wondering if there are anybody that goes to U-M in this thread that can give me some advice on how to increase my chance of getting into U-M.
thanks

thx for adding me! it's great to see your real pictures! apologize for my pix on my profile but i will change it to my own soon...i promise...

also want to make sure, i didn't say LACs are not good for science or engineering majors, if anyone thought i meant so.

about chinese food, it is always the best! chinese restaurants in america don't really serve chinese food. however they still beat others (at least i think so). I love fish. unfortunately, restaurants here don't serve fresh-water fish, and people around me all think fish is disgusting...(that's because you don't know how to cook! ;))....how poor am I...the thing make me sadder is i have to wait till next summer and there may only be a possibility i can go back to china.....

btw, tang you can write the story in english. oh...and i think it's a good idea to share our life stories with all the ppl here. i won't go first coz i don't know what you all think. tang's last para doesn't make sense. you got that much dirty language? I know you've been threatened by the administrator but, no need to be scared like that. *********************************************************************, you know that?

ok i think that's it. and people here plz do what i did if u want to. post every para seperately so we can get more posts here. i really want to beat the Indian's thread. :)

Hehe yryuan you really are dumping water in this thread...hmm anyway is there anyone taking SAT this weekend? If so...good luck :)

Oh and you guys who are already in collge...do you have october breaks? mine starts next weekend and it's 9 days. really long i know. and i'm thinking about traveling a bit...maybe to boston? anyway i'm still undecided.

mine fall break is only 3 days, friday plus weekend. sigh

and mine's 0 days. never heard of a fall break at ut

same here.
