I was researching about classes that I would want to sign up at preview and I came across CHM 2047. I got a 5 on AP Chem and feel that I am generally pretty strong at chemistry, but was wondering if CHM 2047 would be a good option. I plan on being pre-med, so I am deciding between 2046 or 2047. The other classes I want to take this semester are:

D debated taking PHY H2060, Calc 3, and Chem II her first semester. She went and met with the Professor who’s in charge of the Enriched Physics class. Eventhough she had a Calc BC (5), Chem (4, with 740 SAT II), and Physics B (5), he suggested she only take the Calc and the Physics her first semester and acclimate to school. She discovered it wasn’t an issue carrying the honors physics and Calc together in the fall, so she added the Chem II her second semester with H2061 and DiffyQ. Only taking the two together also allowed her to get involved with a sorority, hit the football games, and get acclimated to school. Good luck with your decision.

Ingenium, I know its almost a year later but I am going to be an incoming freshmen and is in the same exact situation as you. Which chem option did you take and are you still on the pre-med track? I am just worried that the med schools that i will eventually be applying to won’t take the credit for general chem. Thanks

Do not take 2047, and definitely do not start at CHM 2046 if you have intentions of going to med school! You need grades for both 2045 and 2046. That’s my opinion. It is also what most med schools want - to see grades for both chemistry courses.

Also, your schedule is really hard for your first semester. I would not take physics in your first semester at UF, along with Calc 3 and a chemistry class. I am sure it is manageable but you will want to have time and freedom in your first semester, and that will be almost impossible with that schedule.

^I agree ufhopeful24. I’ve posted before that pre meds need to show their grades for the pre med requirements…no AP credits. Oh well, less competition I suppose.
