This question has been asked a lot on these forums but never really answered. Which of these labs is the lesser of two evils? I already have credit for CHM2045L, but I'm leaning toward taking CHM2054L because you get to work with a partner.
I've heard horror stories about both labs though. Input from anyone in CHM2054L would be highly appreciated.

Im in 2054L. To get things out of the way. 2054 is the hardest out of the two. From what I hear of 2046, the lab is just straight up follow the directions out of a book. It can be really boring. 2054 on the otherhand is much more open ended. The lab usally involves some general question and you devise an experment to find the answer. EX: Which is a better tool to determine the color of paper: a spectrometer or your eyes? Your typical week involves some suggested reading, though no one does it; a prelab, with infinite tries to get a 100; the actual lab submission, and a postlab 10-15 question test. The grade is not hard at all. To get a A you need a 87% of the point or above. I wouldn’t worry about the grade part. I’ll be honest it helps if you took AP Chem or something where you were exposed to topics in Chem 1 and 2. But some of the labs are pretty hard and most people blow off the post labs cause they can be just impossible. The bright side is you do get to work with a partner, we have way cooler equipment, and we get to do a lot more intresting labs. Plus if you dont get what is going on in the lab, there are 2 TAs for like 25 kids and the TAs hold a optional review session once a week.

Sorry that was more than I meant to put

Wow thank you SO much for the info!!

I think based on what you said I’ll stay with 2054L. I have a genuine interest in chemistry, so I suppose if I don’t have to stress about the grade I’d rather do the more interesting lab. I took AP Chem in high school as well.

If you like chemistry I would take 2054. Everyonce and a while, i become really agitated about a lab but over all I’m glad I took the class.
