Choate Interview

I would like to ask any members to ask if they have any advice for an upcoming interview via Skype in terms of what I should dress like and what type of questions they ask me.

They’ll only see your top half so as long as you’re wearing something appropriate it should be fine.
They’ll ask the same type of questions interviewers usually ask.

If you are a girl, wear a shirt with at least short sleeves that does not expose a lot of skin and is not tight, or a dress that meets these standards. I had my dd wear dresses or dress pants with a blazer or cardigan sweater for her interviews.

If you are a boy, you should wear a shirt and tie, jacket optional.

Good luck!

I agree with Rellielou. Also make sure to keep ‘eye contact’ look into the camera, and keep your hair out of your face and make sure both eyes are clearly visible. At my interview there was a boy with hair covering his eyes, and you could see everyone cringing.

Well, for one of my interviews, I wore a semi-formal dress shirt, no tie, but it was for a nonformal school. I’m not sure if Choate is formal or not, so if it is, wear the dress shirt and tie, but if it’s not, go semi-casual, like a nice flannel or something.

When we were at our visit, every boy I saw in the Admissions Office wore a tie and jacket. We were there over a 2-3 hour period, counting arrival time, waiting time, etc., so we saw a good number of boys.

Even if a school has a casual dress code, you need to “dress to impress” a bit. Dressing well for an interview sends the message that you are invested in making a good impression.

good luck!

Well, I just thought it was kind of awkward to wear a suit and tie for a skype interview for a casual school.
