Choate Soccer?

Just wondering how good it is. I'm on their website and it looks like they suck. Majorly. 2-14-1 WIN-LOSS RECORD. Maybe I have a chance on Varsity if I go there next year. :D

my friend is on the team at CRH
i mean do you play club, ODP, ETC

Sorry for being off topic, but Swampedwithwork, if I remember correctly, this is your second year of applying to boarding schools?

of have to be good even to make a bad class A or class B varsity sports team
freshman don’t usually make Varsity if they were not recruits or exteremly versed in the sport in question

i’ll be a sophomore next year.
and uh well i’ve won a couple awards.
and i live in china, so we don’t have travel teams or odp or anything.
i’ve played for a local club before.

thing is, you can’t really tell me whether or not i’ll make varsity over there because you’ve never seen me play
(btw i’m a goalkeeper and choate just graduated their varsity keeper last year).

but i specifically asked more of whether or not the team was good, just looking for some info. :D

Prep soccer seems to have some pretty wild swings. Some year teams are very good, other years not so good. This is because lots of the schools rely heavily on recruiting (they do not move lots of players from JV to V). Case in point - my son was recruited as a freshman for his school team. When he got there, he was forced to play on JV even though he was rostered for V (this was also partly due to an injury he had suffered). This was because they ended up recruiting a ton of PG’s who were guaranteed their spot on the team. Of the 22 players on the team, 18 were either seniors or pg’s and the other 4 were juniors. My son was one of only two freshman on JV (a team, by the way, that would have crushed his public hs varsity team). He did practice with V and played some games. Started from sophomore year on.
You should be playing some kind of club soccer to make it on to V at one of the New England Preps, especially Class A.

swamped…I just saw the bit about you being a keeper. If you are big and very quick, maybe you can be recruited. Our keeper this year was amazing and he had never played club. In fact, he did work his way up from JV to V (played JV sophomore year and V final two years). We made it to Class A semi’s and maybe could have won if two of our best players weren’t sidelined with injuries. A large part of our success was are keeper.

Send the coaches game tape if you have it. Check out some of Choate’s prior season records as well. Speak to the coaches.

yeah, i don’t really have a game tape… it’s hard to record stuff.
i’m 5’11 but not necessarily very large.
this said, i’m quick and i’m really good in the air.

i wish i could watch some videos or watch choate’s keeper now to see where i stand?
i’m actually expecting jv next year…

oh right, and how many keepers do they put on the varsity team each year?
two? maybe three?

I believe two is the number most teams like to have. 5’11" is tall for a freshman. Sounds like you will have size on your side.

i wasn’t saying that you weren’t good i was just asking whether you have a realistic prospective on your ability

anyone know if there’s a game video on youtube, or somewhere of the choate varsity team? either from this year or previous years?

@swamped:

Hey! I play soccer as well  are you on the team at Choate? If I’m accepted, I hope to watch you play! I will go to all your games!! hehehe #fangirl

@swampedwithwork: First, what a pessimistic username. Second, did you go to the athletic chat? I’m an accepted student as well, and even though I did not participate in any chats, I heard that they were very useful. You can also e-mail the soccer coach or athletic director, whose name I do not know (athletics, unfortunately, is not an interest of mine…:))

GR: swamped is already at Choate. This thread is from 2010.

Whoopes. :p
