I am a four-year senior at Choate ('07), and a rising freshman at Kenyon College. I would be more than happy to answer any questions anyone has via PM or on this forum. If you are interested in speaking to me in person at a re-visit (we call them Second Visit Days)?whether this Friday or Tuesday/Thursday of next week?please PM me and we can arrange to get together while you are on campus.

Later on...when you get the chance...share your thoughts if you're so inclined. I'm very excited for you, helenmelon! I'm so glad you got to see Lawrenceville finally. Now you can go into orientation at Choate looking ahead and not dragging your feet with a tiny nagging curiosity about that other place you didn't ever get around to visiting!

Well this is what i thought about the revisit at LAWRENCEVILLE.

The campus was beautiful
My student host was very nice and so were all the rest of the students. they were all really welcoming.
when i went to visit a math class i didnt feel like the teacher was very good but the students were definitely very focused, the class was quiet.
The facilities were AMAZING.
Food was ok, dining hall was not that great.
Nice dorms, kinda small rooms. most people get singles for freshman year.
Safe, everyone left their stuff outside the dining hall area.

Why I Didn't Choose Lawrenceville:

I play tennis and volleyball and they are in the same season at lawrenceville
I didn't really think the teachers were that great. one teacher was chewing gum and her phone was on and it was ringing and she seemed kinda off task the whole time.
The food was not that great.
The chinese program is not very developed.

it's unfortunate that you had such a poor experience with that teacher... at the same time, i hope that your comments won't be misinterpreted here -- i.e. it would be even more unfortunate for your comments to leave some kind of harsh indictment an entire school based on that poor experience.

i mean clearly every school is going to have its share of great (and not so great teachers) -- i think this just comes with the territory of academic institutions -- doesn't matter if its L-ville or Choate or Harvard.

i am a wee bit old to be going back to prep school my dear!

i'm doing some pre-due diligence for my S (though he far too young now for prep school) -- just want to see how the landscape has changed over the years.

It's kind of late, but I live in the Princeton area and go to another private school here. Some of my best friends go to Lawrenceville, and I hang out there a lot and looked into the school before 9th grade, so if you've got questions you can PM me or whatever. It's true that they have fantastic lacrosse.

And re: Lville being a feeder for Princeton--it is pretty true. It's also true that Princeton faculty kids generally are sprinkled among the prep schools here and do get a disproportionately better shot at Princeton than others. This isn't just a Lawrenceville phenomenon, though: pretty much all the prep schools here (Peddie, Hun, PDS, my school) as well as Princeton High tend to get large numbers of kids into Princeton. Since the Princeton administration knows the area well, they know the caliber of the schools here and are more inclined to let kids in from places they respect. I'm sure that there's a lot of kids in Lawrenceville who also just get in on sheer talent, however.
