Choate - Waitlisted

I got waitlisted. How many people are on it, do you think? And what chance do I have of getting in? My mom called them two minutes after I found out.

What did they say?

They said they don't rank waitlisted people (as in the first person who says they want to be on the waitlist gets in first), but my mother told them it was my first choice and that I was devastated. I'm thinking of asking my soccer coach to write them again and tell them that I can recite 501 digits of Pi and I won the contest last week. I'm also going to give them a statement about me (possibly), but I hope it doesn't come off too braggy.

I wouldn't do the Pi thing. That may come across as kind of strange. I think that expressing your enthusiasm and love for Choate will be your best chance of a ticket off the waitlist.

Thanks, Tom. Maybe I'll try that. What are you doing? (you were waitlisted from there, right?)

I was waitlisted from SPS. I don't think I'll be pursuing it heavily unless I get rejected from Exeter and get a very bad impression from Andover during the revisits.

well on the waitlist letter it says that they dont suggest sending in extra recs, but it would be ok if you sent in an extra essay from school or something

I think I'll have the headmaster call them up.

O.

Really sorry you didn't get in. Know how much you want to go to Choate. My daughter was waitlisted last year, and I think it's pretty tough. I think that last year they took very few, if any, applicants off the wait list. All depends on how many people who are accepted end up going. Obviously. What grade are you applying for?

It might help that Choate, along with a number of other schools, went to a common application form. I think this has had the effect of causing applicants to apply to more schools, which in turn should have a negative impact on each schools yield.

I think it's definitely worthwhile for you to write a letter letting them know that Choate's your first choice and that, if they take you off the wait list you will definitely go.

Good luck. You have a lot of friends here who are pulling for you.:)

Thanks, prp. :) Did she get off the waitlist?

Actually, she was waitlisted at three of the four schools she applied to. End up getting accepted at one off the wait list at one of the other schools, so we asked Choate to take her off the waitlist. But to be honest Choate was not very encouraging about her prospects.

This year I'm going through the same thing with my son, which is one of the reasons I've been hanging out here. So far he's heard back from three schools (two accepts and one reject) and we're still waiting on three more.
