I go to a boarding school in Hartford County, so I can def help! I got into Choate, and I had an 88 on my SSAT, however my grades were a bit higher. Your clubs seem light, but overall I think you have a great shot! I did a lot of community service, and that helped me quite a bit. However, I would recommend more schools. You should not just apply to Choate. I would recommend Loomis Chaffee, AOF, etc, or some schools further away, like Taft or Hotchkiss. I assume you go to Renbrook, and they do get quite a few kids into Loomis as well as a bunch of other great boarding schools of similar caliber. Good luck! Don’t be too worried!

Hey there, I’m currently a boarder at Choate. I come from a significantly different background so it’s difficult for me to comment on that aspect but I would definitely recommend reaching out to the sports coaches since it seems like you are pretty athletically involved. Your grades and test score are solid but they may not push you over the edge, so try to find something that will make you stand out from the other applicants (whether through the application itself, awards, or extracurricular projects). Another point for consideration is location; West Hartford is quite close to Choate so (I’m not completely sure since I’m not from Connecticut) your decision to board vs become a day student may also factor into their decision, especially if it ends up being between you and another equally competitive applicant. I would advise supporting your case to board either during your interview or somewhere on your application. Hope this helps!

And work your network at your private school. There are often relationships between schools hence the term feeder school. Find others from your current school who went on to Choate
