My daughter would die before signing on to CC. However, like JHS's daughter, she did spend quite a bit of time reading and asking questions on the student livejournals of various colleges, and felt that she got some good information that way. She was definitely motivated by "how interesting the people are" -- as is my junior son.

My D would not sign on to CC, though she occasionally read a thread I'd recommend. She was more than happy to make use of the info developed here, however. We're both active on-line...just not in the same communities.

I warned D repeatedly not to get sucked in to CC--way too addictive, and would have fed her anxiety.....I cut/paste or send her threads to look at, but most of the time she just rolls her eyes at me. Recently, at an on-campus event at one of her schools, I introduced myself to a student panelist who'd said here on CC that he'd be there. We talked quite a bit to him, and got a lot of valuable info from his friends and him.... I must admit, that right after I introduced myself and D to him and he moved away, D said, "Mom, you are SO weird." :)

I didn't choose based on the interesting people, but I do think the input of various posters (like jack, ohio_mom, and OneMom) helped me make my decision a while back. Hazmat gets kudos for making me laugh.

FWIW, I think par72 is personally responsible for the jump in applications to Holy Cross. :D
