choice between merit scholarship and need aid

I have visited schools 2 and 3, but not 1, and I don't think I am going to be able to do so. Both schools 2 and 3 were like dreams come true. There was a lot of drinking at both and both seemed, well, ritzy. But I don't expect to be particularly bothered by either of those things. I can't really see which might be the wrong decision, not because there isn't a wrong decision, but because I don't have a crystal ball. I am not usually this indecisive, but as must be obvious, I am flying without a safety net here. I should probably quite bothering all of you and rest on it a few days and then check back here. Thanks to all.

Thanks to all who helped me make a decision. I chose school three. I am ready to go now, and I have no regrets. In fact, I can hardly wait. Cangle, if you are still there, could you say more about the MD/PHD option that you mentioned? Again, thanks to everyone for your interest and help!

If your need doesn't change, it is unlikely that any of the top 5 schools will decrease your aid. Harvard is very good about maintaining their level of support unless there is a major change is your financial situation. That would not be my biggest fear.

Since #1 is a top 5 school, I strongly doubt that the aid package will change if the finaid need remains the same. This will be regardless of how you will perform academically, which would be a great load off your mind. With merit scholarship, however, some schools require a level of performance which may discourage students from taking on more challenging classes; the psychological pressure may be quite a burden. I vote for #1.

Congrats tarheel. Sounds like you made a good, solid decision. Full ride? Yeah!!!
