On my application with Yale and other universities, I put down "engineering" as my desired major. However, i recently changed my mind (100% sure now) to Economics. Although I know they "say" it doesnt matter, should I change this by calling or emailing them? Each year Yale has approx 40-50 engineering majors as opposed to 150ish Econ majors...is it not going to decrease my chances if they see me as a engineering major when in fact i am no longer going for it? clearly these numbers arent going to change that much and yale will probably choose less engineering potential students than social science potential students correct?

The reason that Yale has less engineering admits, is bc fewer engineers apply to yale. In fact I explictly read this from an admission officer, the major choice will not matter much. What is more important is that you show what you want to major in through your extracurriculars, but definitely do not attempt to change it. It is a minor part of the admission process from everyone I heard.

Hmm, I put Spanish major but I have a ton of interests: Anthropology, pre-med, Spanish, and Chinese. Will it reflect badly on me that most of my extracurriculars are related to medicine/not Spanish-related? Spanish is one of my huge passions, but my common app essay is mostly about my love of languages.
