Choices/Help??

I have recently been admitted to Occidental, Oberlin, Lewis & Clark, Kenyon, New College of Florida, UC Davis, UCSD, and UCLA, and now I have a choice to make.

I'm essentially choosing between Kenyon, Davis, Lewis & Clark, and New College. Key things to consider: I'm from California and I enjoy being here. There are plenty of things I like being able to do here (mountain climb, rock climb, ski, bike, surf) that I couldn't do at a few of these other schools. Money is an issue: I/my family have 100,000 saved up, but it's up to me to handle whatever costs more than that. Debt sucks, so the least residual cost, the better. I prefer and am used to a smaller liberal arts school, but I'm pretty sure I could still be comfortable at a bigger school (ie. Davis).

Kenyon=Costs roughly 210,000$ over 4 years. Received 10k/year in merit aid=roughly 70k to pay for by myself. I'm definitely most interested in Kenyon's academics.

Lewis & Clark=roughly 200k over 4 years. Received 9k/year in merit aid=roughly 65k to pay for by myself. Most into Lewis & Clark's location (Portland's awesome, Mt. Hood, etc)...I'm slightly better than neutral about most everything else, though.

Davis=roughly 120k over 4 years, but financially shady. I'm into Food Science, but there's potentially a chance that it takes 5 years to graduate because of classes filling up. So likely 20k to pay for by myself, but possibly more.

New College=150k over 4 years. 12.5k/year in merit aid=probably nothing to pay for. I don't know too much about it. Sarasota seems like a pretty lame place, though.

Not interested in UCLA or UCSD primarily because of feel. Santa Cruz is lame. Oberlin and Oxy are really wonderful, but just cost too much.

Anyone have any thoughts about what you'd do? Anyone know anything about Sarasota, FL?

State schools FTW

I suggest that you go to UC Davis. If money is something that concerns you, that seems like the most ideal option.

hmm. thanks. i’m probably gonna make a trip out to both kenyon and davis to figure it out. anyone know anything at all about new college?

“New College=150k over 4 years. 12.5k/year in merit aid=probably nothing to pay for. I don’t know too much about it. Sarasota seems like a pretty lame place, though.”

Wait, if you go to New College you won’t have any debt? That quote was a bit unclear… but if your parents can cover the full cost and you won’t take on any debt, go there! I don’t think any of your other choices are worth that much debt. And New College is a really good school. I don’t know much about it though…
