Choose between three schools: CMU, UCB, and Vanderbilt

The offer from CMU just made me even more confused. I am an economics and mathematics (statistics) major and I really do not know which school would be a better fit for me. As of right now, I go to a prep school in Maryland. Can someone give me some suggestions? It would be really helpful. Thank you so much!

Did you decide yet? My son was also considering CMU for a Econ/Statistics major

All things being equal, Vanderbilt is a much better option for these majors and for an overall college experience.

Post graduation, Nashville is a booming city with create career options.

Look up rankings for yourself. Overtheline appears to be incorrect. Vanderbilt’s rankings are much lower than the other schools in these areas. Yet departmental rankings should not be a primary reason for choosing an undergrad institution. Make a list of what you are looking for in detail, and then list out the pros and cons for each college option.

I decided to go to Vanderbilt. Anchor down!!!

Excellent choice.

Nice.

I’m sorry I missed this thread. I would have said Vandy or Cal for sports/party scene (Vandy with more Greek flavor); CMU or Cal generally for STEM; and CMU or Vandy for smaller classes and academic support. I think Vandy’s campus is the nicest.

They’re all good. Vandy is probably the most fun of the three. Work hard, play hard.
