ok so my dream schools are UCLA/CAL. The thing is...I just got a REGENTS scholarship from UC Irvine in the mail today!! Basically I get free money and I get priority everything at UCI...sooo... Is it worth giving that up for UCLA (no regents I am assuming) or should I go with UCI regents.

someone let me know what you would do.... I just got that call from ucla for the alumni scholarship and the chances for ucla acceptance is very high!

it’s ultimately up to you, if you got regents for UCI, you might get it for UCLA and/or UC Berkeley. if its a lot of money and a burden on your parents then you could consider UCI, but if you want to go to either UCLA or UC Berkeley, then you’re the only person who can stop yourself. Just consider that whatever your decision you make don’t think that things will be drastically different if you have gone the other route, it might have been much different then you realized, hope things go well

Thank you very much I really appreciate it. I am confused and undecided now with my decision. Being a UCI regent scholar sounds great but being at ucla or berkeley is just as amazing. I have a lot to think about. Hopefully i will receive regents at ucla or berkeley and I won’t have as tough a decision.

major: anthropology
gpa: 3.88
spring semester: 28 units (I have a 4.0 so far this semester. Would this have anything to do with my receiving a regents scholarship…taking so many units?)

And what do they look for when choosing regent scholars???

It depends on what you want out of college. I chose Cal, now I wish I had chosen UCI. Although the undergrad program at Cal for my major is the highest ranked in the nation, ultimately, the prestige isn’t all that matters.

These are all very different schools, in my opinion.
What is important to you in a school? What environment are you looking for? SoCal NoCal, urban (UCLA/Cal) or suburban (UCI) in the heart of a large city (UCLA) of a little bit outside of it (UCI/CAL). Is a car important to you (UCLA/UCI) or can you live without one (Cal)? How important is weather? Have you visited all campuses? I wouldn’t rush into this decision and would advise you to visit all campuses that you are really serious about to get a feel for the campus. You will have all of your admissions decisions by the end of this month and will then have a month to make your decision… take your time and really explore all of the options once you have all of your admissions info!
