Choosing a bike

So I've got 22 days to get a bike for UCSB. I was going to wait until like another quarter, but just realized my classes are on the opposite side of campus from my dorm, so I need to get moving!

I know the whole "Get a cheap bike, so it doesn't get stolen" mantra now, but where do I even get a cheap, good quality bike? Anything in specific to look for? Also, what are the bikes that have brakes since a lot of the cruisers that I've seen don't have brakes on them, but since I'm a bit of klutz, it'd be very helpful. Thanks a bunch!

u can go on craigslist to buy from your local area.
i think u can go to bike shop to install a brake.
but i dont like bikes… u gotta change the tire tube, get a lock, gotta take it in to the dorm when raining, etc.
imo skateboard is cheap, easy maintenance and won’t get stolen.

if you dont want to pack a bike there is a costco and sports authority in goleta, and in I.V. there is isla vista bicycle and varsity bikes where you can buy bikes at or even on ucsb campus bike shop.

Please, for the love of god, if you’re going to bike for the first time in a long time. . .

Take an hour or so to practice bicycling.

There is a very good reason why we upperclassmen love to camp out on the bike circle on the first day of classes. . .
