I don't want to leave the ethnicity section on the common app blank because I think that it's too important, but I feel as though none of the options provided fully describe me.
Allow me to explain:
Usually, when I'm filling in a form with information about myself, and I have to provide my ethnicity, I select other and write "Caribbean" in the line below. My family (both of my parents) were born in the country of Guyana in South America, and it is one of three non-latin countries in South America. It was a British colony for about 200 years, and they brought slaves to work on sugar cane fields from several different places, so there are several groups of people whose families originated from different countries.
So, I'm not hispanic, black or Asian, but those are the options.
My family left Asia 200 years ago, and the culture I'm a part of today is very different, and similar to the culture of countries like Jamaica and Trinidad.
Even though Guyana is in South America, my family does not speak Spanish or
Porteguese.
I have no roots in Africa either, but there is a parenthesis next to black/African-American that says (including Africa and Caribbean).
I'm not sure what to select because none of the options directly apply to me, any advice?

Choose the one that is the most appropriate (likelihood is that would be Africa and Caribbean) and perhaps in the additional information section include a short blurb and explain this to them.

Thanks for the advice! I think I might select both Asian: other, and African/Caribbean: other and elaborate.
