I have done a year of community college and applied to Kean University and Montclair State University and have been accepted to both. I have a 3.0 gpa and 18.00 credits transferred to both universities. My goal is to get my associates degree at one of these colleges and transfer to Rutgers NB. I would go back to my community college and get my associates degree but want to participate in collegiate athletics and like to get some work in a four year school under my belt(frankly sick of my CC). My question is will it matter which university I choose knowing that I will transfer once I get my associates degree? Also would like to know if I earn my associates degree at one of these universities will all or most of the credits transfer to Rutgers? I was told I should get my associates degree before transferring because all the credits will transfer and would like to know if this is true? Having trouble making a decision like to hear thoughts/opinions.

Courses will be harder to transfer from montclair/kean to rutgers. I truely recommend you stay at the cc. I know it blows ass. I was in the same exact situation considering the same exact thing but then I decided to stay at the community college a bit longer. I do NOT regret it, going to a university with plans to transfer is going to be hell and I assure you, going to set you back 1-2 years to graduate.

Just stay at the CC another semester, get 30 credits, and apply next semester to rutgers NB, if you get rejected, apply again.

I understand you want to get into sports, but trust me, just wait a bit. And you CAN experience 4 year quality work at the CC. Take some Honors courses, I think the required GPA for honors is a 3.4 but look on the website at find the people that run it. I’m pretty sure if you ask them and come off that you’re trying even harder, you’ll get in.

P.S. I got into Montclair/SUNY Albany/SUNY Buffalo with 24 credits and a 3.7 gpa. I’m applying this fall with 27 credits (3.6 or 3.7 gpa) and taking 16 credits. I’m bergen cc right now, how about you?

CC of Morris, thanks for the input. I figured once I made a decision on where I will go I might have to get a degree from there, so CC does seem like the best option. Not saying that Montcliar or Kean are bad colleges, but think I should try to hold off like you said one semester in the fall and possibly this summer at CCM before trying to transfer into Rutgers. Also if I get in for the spring semester at Rutgers, I could compete in athletics(my sport is outdoor track and field March-June) which would be my goal. One thing that might stand in my way is I have quite a few withdrawals(actually withdrew a full semester) so maybe I should just settle for Montclar/Kean? Or do you think if I raise my GPA to like 3.2-3.3 and get like 18-21 more credits counting this summer and fall would I have a good chance of getting into Rutgers for the spring semester? Again, thanks for the input.

BTW…I was confused are you going to Bergen CC for the fall semester then applying for the spring semester or are you going to apply for fall admission to Rutgers? Either way looks like you will get in.
