Choosing a college...

Yes, another one of these topics. Perhaps someone can help me out.

I'm sort of a twisted, awesome mix of a gamer, nerd, athlete, and stoner. When it's time to study, I study hard, and when it's time to party, I party hard.

I have found it difficult to choose a college at UCSC. I guess it's probably between 9, 10, Kresge, and maybe Porter - but if anyone has any recommendations for me I will gladly listen.

Initially I was thinking that a single-room would be nice. But does that mean I'll be cut off from everyone? And is it even possible to get a single as a freshman? (Apartments seem out of the question entirely.)

College should definitely be a social experience, so if I end up in a single, I'd want to make sure that there is some sort of community lounge nearby.

Suggestions pl0x?

Freshmen do get singles, but it is a bit rarer. And it definitely cuts you off. Singles are usually on the first floor, and the floor is always super quiet, because nobody wants to hang out in a single (sooo small…).

Every college has at least one lounge-type hangout place. So no worries about that. But most people tend to hang out in the hallways/larger rooms, unless there’s a big event.

Of the colleges you’ve mentioned, you’ll fit in fine. Your friends may not end up being right next door, but somewhere in your building you are certain to find other gamers, nerds, athletes, and stoners to accompany you.

Heh, thanks.

Oh, and about parties. They mostly take place off-campus anyhow. The CSOs tend to get word of parties pretty quickly and shut things down. Especially if they’re noisy and the entire quad can hear them facepalm. Even Crown has its fair share of crazy parties, you just have to know where to go because it’s not obvious from just walking around. People have learned to keep it on the down low so no one gets in trouble.
