Any comments on York Hall?

York is just like blessing, but it is primarily for honors students. Once all the honors students have made their housing selection, they fill the remaining rooms (if any) with upperclassmen.

York is 24/7 quiet hours and there is a live in professor for honors students if they need help. If you’re in the honors program its a great place to live, and a great study environment as well.

From the info I get from my son (an HPU Sophmore), camdisco24 is on target. Finch is definitely not the fanciest, but the location and social aspect can’t be beat. It is only for one year, and as she said you can switch to one of the newer dorms in your sophmore year. My son is on the quiet side, and he made so many good friends at Finch.

My son is in York this year, and he likes it. He does; however, say York would not have been a good idea freshman year.

My son will be a freshman this fall and is trying to decide on a dorm. He was hoping to be in a coed dorm. University Center is where he was leaning, but after reading posts about the open doors and true college dorm experience at Finch, he is reconsidering. Does your son like the location of University Center? Is it easy to get into UC in your sophomore year? I think my son has a good shot at his first choice since we paid the deposit the first day. He will be at HP this weekend and do some last minute research. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

I’ve seen that York has an upgrade cost on the website. If you’re in the Honors College, does that still apply, or is it waived?

My son is a freshman in UC. He loves it and has made lots of friends from UC and other dorms. I really don’t think you can go wrong with any dorm, but the location and restaurants are great. I had lunch with some of his friends parents weekend and the kids in the standard dorms did mentioned they wished they were in UC. My son put his deposit in first day and he got first choice. Good luck!

The UC is a fine place to start.
Don’t take my previous posts the wrong way, I know your students will make friends anywhere they live. The base dorms just make it easier the first couple days.

I currently live in the UC as a sophomore and I love it. It’s a nice upgrade from Finch thats for sure.
If your son wants to start at Finch and upgrade to the UC next year, its not hard to get into at all. There is separate housing for So. and up in the UC and, especially for guys, it doesn’t fill up too fast at all.

To everyone wondering about getting your first choice… If you got your deposit in quickly, you’ll def get your first choice. If you get it in late, you’ll most likely get your second choice. Rarely do freshman get stuck with their 3rd choice (unless you deposit months late).

Blessing is a great dorm for the set up (the kitchen and own room). However, it’s not a very “social” dorm. You cannot keep the doors open, so you really do not get to know anyone on your hall. I know I only knew the person across the hall from me! In Blessing its really easy to just “sit in your room and do your own thing.” So if you really want to know everyone on your hall, I’d advise against it. Also, due to the kitchens, Blessing is a dorm where a lot of “parties” happen. It’s very very loud. However, if you’re not into that, many people respect you.

The UC and York are nice dorms too. They are however more money, as is Blessing. And yes, if you want to live on the Honors floor in York, it is more money. The only “standard-fee” housing is either Finch (the all-guys dorm) or the Complex (which is the all-girls dorm). Every other housing option is more money. Then after freshman year, there are literally no other “standard fee” housing options available (they are only for freshmen).

Hi all, I just finished my freshman year at HPU and as a girl I think it may have been different for the boys but overall my suggestions for dorms would be the traditonal ones. Finch, the complex (wesley, north, yadkin) and mcewen. I lived in blessing and though it was incredibly nice to have a kitchen and my private bedroom, it was also incredibly hard to meet people. people who lived in the traditional dorm set ups were very close and had a easier adjustment. With that being said, I had a bad roommate situation and I know plenty of people who very much enjoyed Blessing and the UC. If you knwo you are going to get very involved and are very friendly, then these dorms could be ok with you, but if you are shy or are unsure I would recommend the traditional dorms.

My son just finished his frewshman year at HPU, he loved living in Finch, met a ton of friends and had a great time.

I am in Finch this upcoming year. Extremely excited.
