I'm going to be applying to the UCs this November, but as I was brainstorming about the essay topics I was wondering if my major selection will have an impact on me admissions-wise. For any UC, including UCLA, I am planning to major in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, or business economics. I'm not really sure which majors are impacted at each UC school and might hurt me in the application. People say for the L&S, there's no worries, but I'm still not sure. Are any of the majors I've mentioned impacted?

I can't even find the apps online for Fall 2008.....I only see the winter and spring term applications on the website.

Business-Economics is an impacted major at UCLA. I don't know if it's impacted when you apply as Pre-BizEcon or if it's impacted when you apply for the actual major. Sofakingwangsta? JPNguyen?

Biochemistry, chemistry, and biology are within the College of Letters and Science. It puts you on level playing ground with most of the students.

You don't need to declare Pre-BizEcon at this time. You can do that when you're taking Econ 1/2, Math 30 series, etc. and eventually apply.

From what i understand, if you're applying L&S, what you list as your intended major doesn't increase or decrease you chances of getting in (even if you say Undeclared). Because you're going to be admitted to a pre-major, and you won't actually get admitted into the major until you complete the requirements.

Biz Econ is an impacted major. I applied Pre-BizEcon, and a lot of people do, and I don't think it puts you at a disadvantage. The weeding-out process for BizEcon doesn't occur when you apply to UCLA, it occurs when you (and all the other pre-BizEcon students) start doing your pre-major classes. Because honestly, a lot of people don't get pre-major grades good enough to get into the BizEcon major (including me).

Pre-majors only exist for impacted/restricted majors.

look at the admission website. They plainly say the do not consider your major if you are applying for L&S.
