We are wondering what meal plan is the best. right now, our daughter eats a quick bowl of oatmeal every morning, and does eat lunch and dinner. Not a huge eater however... she is coming from out of state, and won't know anyone.

We are leaning toward the redplan - what do others think?

When I visited and got a tour over last summer our tour guide recommended getting the lowest full meal plan as a freshmen. Her reasoning was you could always bump it up during the semester if you wanted to, but if you got one that offered too much you couldn’t lower it. Also, any leftover money at the end of the year can be spent at the campus convenience store.

That is exactly what we did. when I researched it further, I found that you can change your meal plan without penalty at any time in the semster as long as it is UP, but you only have the first two weeks to adjust it downward. Seems like a no brainer to me - simply check partway through the quarter, and adjust it upward if needed. One school we visited (I think it was Seattle U) donates all unused meal money to a food bank at the end of the year - thought that was a wonderful idea. DePaul’s rolls over until Spring Quarter, when it is lost if unused. Good to know you can spend at the convenience store - time to buy lots of supplies for the next year if needed!
