Choosing a room, housing help

Dear all,

I don't know if you're interested but I made this and I thought it might help whoever looked at it in choosing a room. It's a chart with stats and notes about the rooms in the Central BCG complex. Take a look. Hope it helps. Cheers.

Are the floors on which the bathrooms are on the hall (non-suites), coed or single-sex?

Well, I guess I wouldn't know for sure (100%) unless I called the housing office at UMass Amherst, but I'm fairly certain that it goes like this (its the only logical organization):

if the floor your living on is co-ed and there is only 1 bathroom on it, it is a co-ed bathroom

if the floor your living on is co-ed and there are 2 bathrooms on it, they are single sex bathrooms

if the floor your living on is single sex, the bathrooms on that floor are single sex

It's really the only logical way they could have layyed it out, but your right, it does bring up an interesting point. I guess that means that the bathrooms on, for example, floor 2 and 3 of Chadbourne are co-ed. I certainly hadn't thought of that before. (Kind of cool....I guess....not sure how I feel about it...lol)

Hi everyone,

I'm going to submit my housing preferance application this week (on spire) and was wondering what others were looking into for housing and also what to expect from the different housing areas on campus. If there is anyone who lives on campus I would like to hear the details on each of the residential communities. Thanks-

I don't know how much I'd read into it but take a look at this...it was posted in reply to a thread I created called "UMass Amherst Woo!" (or something like that). Take a look:

Well, I'm transferring OUT of UMass-Amherst. If you have any questions though, let me know.

In terms of where you should live... here are the general stereotypes, which are pretty accurate, for each area.

Southwest - If you want to party, live here. Most densely populated and has an urban feel with the highrises. This is where UMass gets its Zoomass reputation. They are moving more and more freshman into this area as they want to keep them together more. Also has the best DC (Dining Commons) on campus. Only place with "Z-Rooms" which are the nicest dorms on campus.

Central - closest area to campus/classes. You can usually smell the marijuana upon entering...
Northeastern - Self-Segregated Asian population. About 70% asian I'd say.
Orchard Hill - Lots of "artistic" people here, heavy drugs. Walking up the hill sucks. Lots of Film and Liberal arts kids.
Sylvan - Live here if you are a recluse and you don't want to have any friends or fun at UMass. It is "suite" style rooms, so no floor bathrooms. Very far from campus..

ANYway, I'm trying hard to Central but that's just me. Have a good one and good luck (btw I submitted my preference app awhile ago).

Since this is one opinion, I will take it lightly, but it lets me know what to expect. I put in for my housing preferance application today, I picked some in Central as my priority along with a couple in Northeast and Orchard Hill. I also put in for the new North residential apartments...it dosen't hurt to try!

If you have a facebook or myspace, the students on the UMass pages basically say the same thing about the residential areas. Im going to try for Central and O-Hill.
