Choosing a School

I'm looking for people's feedback regarding my college situation.

I got in to Rice, Pomona, and Northwestern (and their Integrated Science Program).

Rice and Pomona are my "dream schools," but both of them (and Northwestern) are asking for an outrageous amount of money. Could I simply ask for more need-based aid without any recent changes in financial status?

I also have full or close to full ride offers (just for National Merit) from Kentucky, Michigan State, and Oklahoma.

I am also considering going to UW-Madison, as I live in Wisconsin and have grown up being a Badger.

So the question is, would Rice or Pomona be worth lots of debt/loans? Should I just take a full ride? Or should I meet in the middle and go to Madison?

I look forward to reading your input.

This all depends on what your family can afford. There are lots of us paying full freight at schools because we think they’re worth it. If it will hurt your family’s retirement or you will need big loans, take the full ride. If your family has been saving and has the funds, attend a dream school.

If Rice, Pomona and NU are asking for outrageous amounts then your family must have good income. You need to ask them if they are willing to pay that much. If not then go for the scholarships or UW-M.

What are you priorities? (big question but very important)
