Choosing a speciality

Hi, I am a student up to the point of choosing a speciality. However, I am not very clear on the nature of work of some specialities. I don’t like to perform surgery, but I want to specialize in a field.

Do all specialities require the use of surgery?

What are some specialities that don’t require the performance of surgery?

Please list at least 4-5 non-surgerical specialities.

THx,
USX

If you have to ask these questions, you're not up to the point of choosing a specialty.

"Up to the point of choosing a specialty" means that you are currently in February of your fourth year of medical school. This is not the case.

USX, I agree with the others. Something isn't clear or you're not being candid or you are not at a US medical school.

From your other posts it seems as though you are still in high school... so I am wondering, how does that mean you are up to the point of choosing a specialty?

Oh, I still have a year before finishing school, but I will like the path to be more definitive by now. I always like a head start so I will be well informed by then.

Thx for all who replied.

These are just some of the questions that I have when I was trying to formulate specialities that I will enjoy going into.

I am just trying to get more insight and information. I still have some time before I finally have to choose.

you should try to shadow a physician to see what his/her daily life is like. You may find that you want a different career. So first decide if you really want to become a physician, then worry about specialty while you are in medical school, especially during years 3 and 4.
