I’m probably going to end up in one of two fields (comp sci or bio), but I’m undeclared right now. Is it better to choose an LLC that pertains to one of these areas, or to choose an all-encompassing one like Fusion? What are the advantages of each?
I am an RA, and I have a resident who selected my major-based LLC despite not being in the major. She has fit in very well, and enjoys living here from what I’ve seen, but a lot of the programming we do as RA’s (3/5 of our programs are LLC related) does not overlap with her major/interests. That is a potential negative. Another potential negative is that you won’t be neighbors with people in your same classes (in general) in Fusion like you would in a business LLC. On the half of the floor that is “mine”, several belonged to the same groups for an intro to business projects or classes, and were able to ask each other for homework help or study. On the other hand, if you’d rather meet people outside your major to cast a wider net, Fusion is the better option.
novafan1225, could I ask a few followup questions?
First, what is the reputation of the sports leadership LLC? My son is interested in sports analytics and management, but isn’t really a jock himself. Does it tend to be mostly athletes?
Second, do certain of the LLCs tend to get better housing, or is that all random from year to year (our tour guide said she thought it was pretty random)?
Thanks!
Just to jump in here, I’m not sure on the reputation of the Sports Leadership LLC, but yes, most of the housing is pretty random. There are some that are usually the same (for example Kerr hall is usually the music LLC because it has a soundproof practice room) but in general, they change year to year. Most freshman housing I would say is pretty much the same I wouldn’t say many of the housing is better or worse there are just pros and cons.
Light Hall and Melvin Hall, for example, are older and a bit less clean than some of the newer dorms, but they are smaller so it’s easier to get to know everyone you’re living with. They also have more variety in room sizes, I know some people who had huge freshman dorms in those buildings. On the flip side of that Speare and the Stetsons are a bit newer but much more uniform in terms of dorms size. They definitely run on the smaller side. Honors housing is all in IV which is more expensive but also brand new. It’s more segmented from the rest of campus, though. Honestly, it’s very unlikely you can go wrong with freshman housing.
All of the housing has their pros and cons, I wouldn’t recommend picking an LLC based off of that!
Does anyone know, maybe from previous years, approximately when we will be notified of which LLC we got into?
@Lt2020 Looking back through my email, I received my housing assignment/LLC/move-in date on June 12 of last year. So, it’s likely that you’ll hear around that time, too.
