For those of you who are accepting Berkeley's offer of admission, why did you choose Berkeley and which schools are you turning down?

Berkeley over the rest of the UCs, NYU and Cornell

Berkeley over several UC's, Princeton, Stanford

Choosing Berkeley over other UCs and NYU

berkeley over wustl and usc

12041987, that was an easy choice. ;)

CA2006: was there some special reason you chose cal over princeton and stanford? or was it just mere preference

Ditto. CA, I understand choosing Berkeley over Princeton, but why over Stanford?

choosing cal over ucla, ucsd, ucsb, uci (all with honors), ucr with honors + regents, ucd, usc with presidential scholarship, and bu

I understand choosing Berkeley over Princeton, but why over Stanford?

Because Berkeley is superior, of course. Go bears!

(seriously though, with this supposed rivalry almost no one picks Berkeley over Stanford...what's up with that?)

"(seriously though, with this supposed rivalry almost no one picks Berkeley over Stanford...what's up with that?)"

Because Stanford undergrad is more selective than Cal undergrad?

Princeton undergrad is also more selective than Cal undergrad?

Ja . . . . . . . .

But the majority would not select Cal over Princeton I'd assume. CA2006 is just an exception.

Probably right. Most importantly, cross acceptances indicate that students tend to choose Princeton over Berkeley if admitted to both, and yes, even Stanford over Berkeley.

I wouldn't think twice if I was accepted to Stanford and UCB. Stanford all the way.

That's why you're a funnyman ;). No, i agree, think long and hard about every school, but it's clear that that has been done and that the decision has been made.

I'd probably take Berkeley over Stanford, and MAYBE Princeton over Berkeley if location weren't a problem. Unfortunately, I would have had to stay at home (for 3rd, 4th years, at the very least) had I decided to attend Berkeley. But I still love the place.

Why no Princeton? Family circumstances; my grandma's health has changed and I want to stay on the west coast.
Why Cal over Stanford? I actually didn't expect to get accepted. I don't like the Farm. May not be the popular decision, I gave it serious thought, but if I can't go to Princeton (and I was waitlisted at Duke) then Cal was my 1st CA choice. I am happy with my choice.

Princeton really isn't that respected abroad believe it or not, and I plan on moving to Europe permanently someday, or at least for a long period of time. Many people have no idea what Princeton is, plus I just don't think it's really up to par with the other great Ivies.

On the other hand, Stanford is GREAT: great undergrad; superior grad programs. I'd say graduate-wise it's better than Harvard.

I'd totally choose Stanford over Berkeley, although Princeton I'd be unsure about.

Anyway CA, either way you're still at a top-notch school, and you may be saving a lot of money. Just go to Stanford for grad school. :)
