I am choosing between ASU, UA, and UI. ASU and UA are both ranked lower than the University of Iowa, and I got direct business in both of those universities. The University of Iowa is ranked higher, but I got into the pre-business program. But to get into the business program at UI, all I need is a 2.75 cumulative GPA, so I am considering going there. Where should I go?
I’m in a similar situation- I was deciding between Iowa, Depaul, and Marquette. I was considering ASU as well and I would’ve been a direct admit there, but I did not apply. I chose Iowa and keep in mind that you also need a 2.75 prerequisite gpa (for calc, stats, micro, accounting). I would say that Iowa has the best program and I was really impressed when I visited. Some other reasons I chose iowa is because I got a scholarship 5k/year and I didn’t wanna go all the way to Arizona.
I understand it’s a hard decision, and being a direct admit would save a lot of stress, but you have to think about your financial constraints and where you think you’ll be successful. If your willing to work hard, I would probably go to iowa. It’s not as hard as the upper tier schools like U of I or Minnesota, and it’s the best among your 3 options
Are you sure UA gives direct admission? I didn’t see it when I looked on their website
did you get into the honors college at any of them?
No I did not get into the honors college for any of them
Yeah I got into the business school at UA.
I would agree that Iowa is the best choice here.
The differences in ranking/reputation for these is marginal at best. If one were significantly cheaper, I would go there. If they are all roughly the same, then I would go with the one closest to to the area I might settle… if you want to live in the Southwest, go to ASU/UA… if you want to live in the midwest after graduation, go to UI.
Iowa funds its universities better than Arizona (outside of Barrett, ASU really isn’t that great for “regular” students, huge lecture hall classes or online classes…) and the average IA high school student is better than the average Arizona student (AZ ranks 43rd for quality of school systems and ranks in bottom 10 for ACT performance, Iowa ranks 11th for quality of school systems and ranks well above AZ and above national average for ACT performance), so I’d go to Iowa if it’s affordable as the general quality of your peers as well as the resources/funding for the university are better…
@lobojaba UA does not really give “direct admission.” It says students must apply to the upper division after prerequisite coursework and there is a required gpa…so it sounds pretty similar to the prebusiness process at UI. Also, what are your stats? (gpa, act). You may be able to petition for direct admission at Iowa. I was very very close to getting direct admission but i was denied (at Iowa)
My stats are a 3.2 gpa and a 31 ACT
What are the costs of each one?
Okay U of Iowa requires a 3.7 gpa and 27 ACT so your gpa would be a little low for direct admission. Is that unweighted or weighted?
