Which one would you pick, and why?

Reputation-wise, which school has the best reputation? Thank you very much.

Which one would you pick, and why?

Reputation-wise, which school has the best reputation? Thank you very much.

All have great reputations... I think you have here three different schools that are all great and will get you where you want to go. Looking for something smaller, maybe Catholic affiliation... BC is the place. Girls are good there too.

UVA has an amazing business program if that's what you're into. I don't know TOO much about it but athletics are followed closely there and it's considerably larger than BC.

UMich also has an amazing business program, but also has many other programs that are very strong. It's a lot harder as an undergraduate than the other two, from what I've heard, but the programs are top notch if you can apply yourself and get the most out of it. A ton of my friends go to UMich and what I've taken away from it is that it's like a funnel. It takes in a lot of kids and weeds them out, with the best students being the ones who reap the true benefits of an amazing university.

There's never a hands-down answer to what school you "should" pick until we know more about you though.

University of Michigan- Ann Arbor

In a college town, and offer the college experience.

And ofcourse top academics/ programs.

Michigan might weed out students from the toughest majors as you put it, but it does have a high graduation rate. It's not like students who go there are not completing their degrees.

I was a little worried reading the first post that their graduation rate may be low. As if the school was purposely having students drop out.

I'm really interested in the social sciences. I like English, philosophy, political science, economics, history.

How are the chances of people getting into graduate schools from UVA, UMich, or BC?

In my personal opinion, UMich is slightly more reputable than UVa and UVa is more reputable than BC.

I'd say the reputations of UVA/Umich are too close to make a call. With that said, Umich & UVA > BC.

University of Michigan is the social sciences haven (especially if you like quantitative methods).

It is one of the few universities to have top-10 programs in almost every field.

Reputation wise, it's

UMich
UVa

BC.

Not much difference for undergrad between the first two, except size and weather, with Michigan being larger and colder. Both have big time D1 sports. Both are in great college towns. UVa might me a little more undergrad-focused, but not by much, since they are both major research Unis. UVa does have a better finaid program for OOS. Because of the OOS cost, I prefer UVa.

BC is an excellent private school, and has Boston. While academically it may be great, the religious-based schools don't tend to fare well on the USNews's prestige factor (for whatever reason).

bnguyen, how much do you like hockey?

UM and BC both have top hockey programs.

.........and so does Wisconsin. Had to add that barrons before you did. ;-)

Thanks. I was just slightly aware (that was sarcasm FYI). If the OP had no interest in hockey, I would say pick UVA or UMich, and probably pick UVA overall.

Except Bucky is having a total down year.

Actually the Badgers have clawed their way to first place in the WCHA after sweeping the hated Gophers last weekend. They did look terrible early in the year but were young.

USCHO.com :: U.S. College Hockey Online :: 2008-2009 WCHA Standings

Wisconsin may be tied for first in the WCHA, but they're on the outside looking in with respect to the NCAA tournament, and they don't have a very easy schedule left.

Yeah, really. 16-11 isn't exactly a great year in Madtown. You know you're having a bad year when you lose twice to NMU.

Each is considered a top school with in their respective regions. If you want to live in Boston or NY go BC. Chicago, go big Blue, Washington-Wahoowa.
