Choosing between the middleish-tier UCs

oh, maybe u refuse to psot because UCD is rank pretty low.

Perhaps CE Man can get those stats for you dude. ;)

UC Davis is the 17th best engineering school among public universities in the nation.

http://engineering.ucdavis.edu/pages/about/index.html

Thanks to CE Man for the stats.

Doesn't that state the stats comes from engineering.ucdavis? Also, isn't UCSD's engineering program ranked higher than UCLA's? (I'm actually not sure about the last question)

from what iv seen around CC is that UCSD is in the top tier of UC's, which is believable.

Worriedsenior READING COMPREHENSION please. Look below Mechanical Engineering:
Davis ranks #28
Irvine ranks #36
source: US News Premium Online Edition

Do you know what comprehension means? -_-'

forget reading comprehension, voiceofreason does not even comprehend numbers.

voiceofreason still maintains that UCD is more selective than UCI or UCSB

UCD SAT: 1050-1290
UCI SAT: 1090-1310
UCSB SAT: 1070-1320

UCD accept rate: 68%
UCI accept rate: 59%
UCSB accept rate: 52%

have you guys been arguing about ranks or selectivity?

voiceofreason ignores all data regarding seletivity

just keeps referring to the US News screwup and how it affects UCD's real position.. plus something about negative momentum.

voiceofreason must be a rocketscientist

Again I did not source the post CE Man did. He clearly states in his post the source as:
source: US News Premium Online Edition
He also gives a link to the UCD site, but he states his source as US News

How about everyone shut up and read my initial question?
socalbmw: listing the rankings is not what I asked for; if you (and Voiceofreason as well) are here to pick a fight, kindly gtfo.

abcdefghijk

UCSD and it's not even close. You sound like you don't have much of a social problem. But if you're really into going out and the party atmosphere, then go to UCSB. I personally believe you'll be okay socially at any school.

Charisma as has been stated each school has its own atmosphere. You really need to decide which one suits you personally best. I don't think its possible to decide without visiting. I know it took me numerous visits between UCD, UCSD and UCSB to decide. Good luck to you.

@socal, Thank you ... but I'm planning on majoring in chem :/

@ Voice, I know I just wanted to stop the pointless bickering that develops in almost all of these kinds of threads

@ Worried, eh, almost everyone is more vocal (... not literally) on the internet, I'm much quieter IRL

I'm really sorry I allowed myself to be pulled into that, especially in your thread Charisma. You seem like a nice person who is truly seeking advice. Please feel free to ask me anything about davis and I will answer if I can. I know how hard making this decision is. I can only say after my third visit to each school I knew where I wanted to go and why. I discovered how important school spirit is to me. I think if you can visit you will know too.

No, it's fine, really, sorry if I sounded too harsh or anything. It can be fun or addicting sometimes to argue, and I've done it a lot myself, but I swear every "which school should I choose" thread degenerates into petty arguing or *****ing about how other colleges suck.

Wow, 3 visits? that must have cost a lot. At least you showed that Davis has a lot of school spirit :)

I'll take you up on that offer; would you say that Davis has a lot to do on the weekends (shopping ... and probably more shopping xP ... but other stuff as well) Is the transportation good? buses vs. bikes? Also, one last one (sorry) is it convenient to go to Sacramento w/out a car?

if you are in davis, you will most likely ride a bike on campus and drive a car somewhere else (off campus).

you need a car if you want to go to sacramento, it takes me about 30 minutes. traffic is pretty bad during rush hour too. if you like shopping, there are tons of outlets and malls around but not in davis. so basically you will need a car and i think davis doesnt allow frosh to have cars.

tons of great places to eat in davis and bars once your 21.

Well shopping in Sacramento is great and on the weekends (no traffic) there are two malls about 15 minutes away. (down town Sac and Arden Fair) Definately join the greek system because then you will make lots of friends with cars. ;) There are buses you can take into Sac also. If you are in the greek system there will always be exchanges and activities to keep you busy. There are tons of sports activities to participate in or watch every weekend. Transportation is good (sometimes unitrans is late). I rarely use it though because we all ride bikes here. Davis is known for bikes. Recently we set a guinness world record for the biggest bike parade which was really awesome. The farmers market is really cool. They sell lots of stuff like pasteries, coffee, candy, pretzels and the like. (also a good reason to bike) Often times you will just want to hang out on the campus and sit on the grass in the sun with your friends. We have an amazing amount of intramurals including inner tube water polo (invented at UCD). The Aggie Pack is just amazing and so much fun to cheer with, but prepare to lose your voice. To me this is the most awesome part about UCD that was missing from the other schools I visited, the spirit and sense of belonging. Hope that helps.
