Choosing between these 6

I applied to 11 schools I think, but the only ones I would actually consider going to are the following 6:

D’Youville College
Le Moyne College/St. Joseph’s College of Nursing dual degree program for nursing
Temple University
Drexel University
SUNY Binghamton
SUNY Buffalo

Pros and cons of each:

D’Youville:
PROS - Small, known for health programs, direct entry into nursing program in a city
CONS - Low NCLEX-RN pass rate compared to Le Moyne, cold (it’s in Buffalo NY)

Le Moyne:
PROS - Small, direct entry into nursing program - start nursing including clinicals during the 2nd year, campus, work study, in a city, 100% job placement after graduation
CONS - Price tag (although not out of range), being at two separate campuses for college and splitting up the years, not incredibly diverse

Temple:
PROS - Campus, large student body but low student/faculty ratio, in a city, extremely diverse
CONS - Have to apply to the nursing program after 2nd year, price tag

Drexel:
PROS - In a city, co-op program, direct entry into nursing program, campus
CONS - Price tag, summer classes

Binghamton:
PROS - Top public school, price tag, in a city, campus
CONS - Have to apply to the nursing program

Buffalo:
PROS - Nursing is a small division of the school, direct entry into nursing program, top public school, connected with lots of hospitals, in a city
CONS - Nursing program is quite competitive

I’ve been accepted to D’Youville and Le Moyne already, and got scholarships at both. Because of this, I’ll probably be choosing between these two, especially since I don’t think I’ll get into Binghamton, Drexel would only be financially possible if I got an insane amount of scholarship money, and I’m thinking that Buffalo is too big…So that leaves Temple, D’Youville and Le Moyne.

Anyway, I have a couple questions:

Which do you think I should choose?

Does anyone know what the acceptance rate is to the nursing programs at Temple and Binghamton?

Any experience with any of the schools, especially the nursing programs?

Thanks!

Of course, I have to see where all I get in, and how much money I can get from each place…And I still have to visit D’Youville and Buffalo because I haven’t seen either of those campuses yet…But this is just to get an idea.

I’m partial to Temple simply because I go there. Drexel is not worth the money, by the way.

I agree, Temple is good but I think your best bet is SUNY-Binghamton

Why SUNY Binghamton? (And also, as I said, I doubt I’ll get in there…it’s highly competitive as is, and everyone applied there this year).

Temple is in the ghetto. I heard the first thing they did at orientation one year was hand out rape whistles. (coming from a teacher)

I know that Temple isn’t in the best neighborhood, but the campus itself is really nice, and also really safe.

Well… if you are willing to overlook that.

Actually, im not to far from the Temple campus. They actually came into my area (coal miners area), and decided that they wanted to clean it up. I saw their presentation at my local government building, while leaving class. I have nothing bad to say about their academics. The professor I talked to (an environmental engineer), seemed very nice and very interested in what he does.

But the area is really, REALLY bad. Make no mistake.

Drexel is in an okay area, right next to U of Penn. Im not really a fan of the buildings. I heard most people go there for their co-op program, but thats the only good I ever heard about that school.

I cant comment on the rest.

Well I go to Temple, so I think I have a better handle of what it’s like than you, and while North Philly isn’t exactly the greatest place in the world, Temple’s campus and immediate area is extremely safe. There is security everywhere.

As far as rape whistles go, I did not see them given out at orientation, so I have no idea what you’re talking about…

Just what a teacher told me, im not claiming it to be true.

diontechristmas - That’s exactly how I feel. As I said, I know the area around the campus isn’t great, but also that the campus itself is really safe.

Also, UPDATE: I just got an acceptance letter today…From Temple!

Congratulations

Thanks =D 10

Congratulations again!

I’d say Temple or Drexel, simply because I think Philadelphia is a fantastic (and hugely underrated) city in which to spend your college years

I love Philly! It’s a great place, and I think I would like being there for 4 years.

If you were accepted into either SUNY Binghamton or SUNY Buffalo, I would suggest that you go to a SUNY school. You should be able to get a job as you are a registered nurse. So why spend more money in a private school?

This is just my humble opinion. :)

The price tag will be pretty similar between the SUNY schools, Le Moyne and D’Youville. The latter 2 are a bit more, but not by a lot. Temple would be a lot more, and Drexel even more.

I’d go where you are accepted in to the RN program as a freshman. Take a look at graduation rates from the nursing program and % accepted if not direct admits.

^ That’s what I’m thinking.

If you go to the state board of nursing website for any state you should be able to access the NCLEX stats for every school in the state. If you cannot find them, call the board of nursing. Though the NCLEX exam is not difficult the school you choose should have a very high pass rate. Just my opinion and good luck in your future career.

All of the schools I’m considering have an 85% or higher NCLEX pass rate.
