Choosing between too many campuses-Cal Poly Pomona, Monterey, Humboldt, Chico, Hilo, Cal Lu

I am out of time and just dont have one I like more than the other. I want to do chemistry/biology to get into dental school. Each of these schools have a perk or two, but I cant see a clear difference to choose. Any suggestions? Comments?

You must have a preference in location/“vibe” and costs?

Nothing- and they all will cost me about the same. Cal Lu being the only exceptions. It is more expensive. I like the idea of being in So Cal, but like the idea of a smaller school too. Though big has more opportunity. Totally indecisive-ugh

I visited Monterey recently. It’s probably the closest thing to the “SoCal” environment in NorCal. It’s such a young school though, so there is not a lot of alumni.

Cal Poly Pomona has around 25,326 students, I don’t think that is considered large unfortunately…so I would cross that school out. It’s not exactly the biggest school on STEM outside of Engineering. But it is the only large school on your list.

UH Hilo is out-of-state, so I would avoid that even if you have a full ride. If you lose that full ride, you will graduate with loads of debt.

Humboldt is just way too far for what it’s worth for most people. I love the school and it’s beautiful, but the cons of the school are pretty strong.

I personally think Chico would be the best choice. But I’m not too sure either because you didn’t really give a lot of information. You have to want more OP; you have many options and should take advantage of it.

Hawaii and Cal Lu sound too expensive. The rest all are fine schools - they are in such different surroundings, you must have a preference… they could easily be in different states… someplace like Humboldt - it is so isolated that you should be really ga-ga over it - or you will hate it after 6 months.

Start to think about what you want your college experience to be like… visit the schools, talk to the students and see where you fit. If you want a classic college town, Chico is the place. If you dig the hippie vibe and want to drive you Subaru out to save trees, Humboldt it is. Monterrey is small, new and is still developing its vibe - but, you can see the Pacific Ocean from campus and there’s world class surfing and mountain biking nearby. CPP is more of a commuter campus and is far bigger than the others - it is in SoCal but doesn’t have the coastal vibe or climate.

What are you looking for?

No idea–just so frustrated and unsure. Each of them have an interesting Science program, except Chico. But Chico has the college town thing. This is a real stressor

I am interested in biology for dental. I want to be an orthodontist. I, also like deep sea diving and the mountains. A college town sounds good, but it isnt a must. It would be great to really get to participate in biology hands on, but also with variety.

I have never met anyone that would be equally happy in Pomona and Arcata… Have you visited all 4 schools? Have you talked to existing students?
If you have, you should be able to rule out 1 or 2. From there, flip a coin if you must.

If not, it is time for a road-trip.

What are you looking for in a ‘college town’?

I have visited. I did like Pomona. I like them all about the same. I guess the coin is my only option at this point and cost I guess. Thanks for the help.
