Choosing between UIUC and UMD

I've been accepted to both schools, uiuc and university of maryland- college park, and I find it very hard to choose between the two.

I'm going to major in Business and might want to try for law school in the future. I really like the DC area and was attracted by the fact that UMD is only a couple of minutes away from it. On the other hand, UIUC is a more prestigious school and has a higher ranking in the major which I would like to study. Also I heard that UIUC has an excellent career center which would probably help me look for a job easier.

I could really use some help with this decision. Any help is appreciated. Thank you very much.

Are you in state for either? Finances could help make your decision.

If you truly feel they are dead even, I would go with UIUC since you state how strong their career center is in placing graduates.

Thanks for your reply. I'm out-state for both. Finances aren't an issue to me and I would like to consider them besides those financial factors.

UMD is in a bad neighborhood, so you probably won't be walking off campus much. There isn't much to do that close anyway. However, as you said DC is a short drive away (Bethesda is cool also).

Sports are a huge deal at UMD, if you're for/against that.

Thanks. Does being close to DC meant that I can have a better chance in getting a preferable internship than I can in UIUC?

Yes but Illinois might prepeare you better.

Thanks. I heard that UIUC is in financial crisis right now. Will it affect its academic quality?

Hmm where have you heard that? Illinois has always been strong in the sciences and business and engienering. I hope that the economic downfall bring down a great school.

I had a friend studying at illinois. He told me a couple of days ago.

If you like being in/near a city, IMHO that's a serious concern. UIUC is REALLY out in the cornfields. It's a pain in the neck to get to Chicago. It's true that College Park isn't great, but you hop on the Metro and you're in DC before you know it.
