Choosing between University of Colorado Boulder and Penn State for aerospace

My son wants to major in aerospace engineering. He has been accepted directly into Penn State engineering and into Exploratory Learning at Boulder. Here after the first year he could transfer into engineering if he maintains a 2.7 or above. Is it worth the risk? He wasn’t able to see the Penn State campus due to admitted student ours being cancelled-so he’s only been to Boulder…which he really liked. It’s a real bummer that he couldn’t step foot onto Penn’s campus. Any comparisons or viewpoints would be a huge help as his decision has to be made by May 1.

In the current climate I would be looking seriously at the relative cost of these two options, just as I would do for any college major where the job outlook is relatively uncertain. Aerospace is one of the hardest hit sectors (the airline industry is obviously bad right now, but space is also taking a big hit and may take even longer to recover) and even though he won’t be graduating for another four years, I think it is going to be challenging to find internships and jobs in this sector for quite a while as major companies (up to and including Boeing) go through wrenching disruption. Is one of these an in-state option or otherwise significantly cheaper?

I have the exact same dilemma for Aerospace between Boulder and ASU. Due to current situations couldn’t visit ASU so interested on replies here. We also loved Boulder and the program and building was phenomenal. Neither are in state but cost difference is big as he got money to ASU. It is so hard to experience virtually we have tried. Love ideas here as I want to think long game for this decision and student experience.
