Choosing "choose your own" for common app essay?

<p>Hi all,</p>

<p>I recently wrote an essay that I really like, and I think shows admissions officers who I truly am; however, it doesn't really fit into any of the categories for the common app essay. I want to pick the "choose your own" topic, but I am not sure if this will hurt me. Has anyone else done this or does anyone know if this will hurt me?</p>
