choosing classes and taking placement examenes

I know I post a lot on this forum :D. IT's only because I'm enthusiastic on attending tulane..BUT on a more specific note:

I was wondering, I cannot attend the summer orientation and how else are we supposed to register for classes? And, what classes are we supposed to take (like for me being a music major?)

ALSO, What's the deal w/placement exams? And AP credits (i took one test this year ... so i don't know what to do with the score i get.)

Thankee!

Regarding Ap credits, you have to have them submitted to Tulane. They generally take care of them in a timely manner, but if it doesn't show up on your TOUR listing, talk to your advisor. Credit and placement is done automatically as soon as they process the score.

Everything else, I have no idea. I was kind of surprised when I heard new freshman had a summer orientation. When I was a freshman, we just signed up for classes online after getting all our information in August I think.

I had orientation right before classes began in August and I registered for classes online, which might be the same. You should receive a letter with a password and instructions, including a specific date and time at which you can begin registration. You might want to call Advising just to clarify.
Focus on the core curriculum classes (lab science, calc, econ, etc), because you are going to have to take them at some point. You can then decide what classes you need to take for your major. The core classes generally take about 2 years to fulfill, depending on how many AP credits you receive.

Make sure you check the online schedule for course availability.

the website is http://classschedule.tulane.edu (no www)

check the student ratings of the faculty before you enroll - past students are very reliable in their ratings - try to enroll in classes where the professors have very high scores

some good freshman courses are

MUSC 100 or 101 (fulfills performing arts requirement)
SOCI 147 (fulfills the pesky non-western requirement)

Does anybody know the difficulty of music classes at Tulane? I mean do they consume all of your time, or if you have some background can that be helpful?

music 100 might be the easiest class at tulane - you might spend an hour a week studying for this class unless you have no background at all

after music 100 - "harmony" is the weed-out course and everything after that is a course for majors except "history of jazz"

you register in august sometime - they will send you everything you need (the URL, login, PIN and time) in the mail

Thanks Rico! I hope it can be a gpa booster haha.

MUSC 100 was the easiest class I have ever taken. It was the most boring too since I had about 6 or 7 years of band behind me. If you can read treble and bass clefs, and know basic theory about chords and whatnot, you don't even need to think about this class. Great GPA booster.
